Here in North GA we had a 2 hr delay because the temps were single digits. No snow...no ice...just single digit temps
Still trying to figure this one out. Monday it was -15 and they closed school. Tuesday was -18 and there wasn't even a delay? Hmmmmmmmm
Serious question. Are people just looking to get off work/school or do they think there is a serious public safety concern?
Ha idk I can see it though, I was stationed in NC and had about as much snow as in that pic one time and people were freaking. Was actually pretty funny.
I believe they delayed schools because they didn't want kids waiting at the bus stops in the single digit temps.
I think that's what it is too. As well as buses, cars, etc.. starting ok. Which is why I wondered how it's plausible to cancel in -15 but a day later it's ok at -18. Weird lol. Last year I remember all the schools closing the night before because there was supposed to be a big storm coming. Woke up to a dusting of snow on the truck and a beautiful sunny winter day. All the kids were home from school.
My brothers have missed at least 5-6 days of school because of sub-zero temps this year. The school are worried about getting sued if something happens to their kids (frostbite, bus accident, ect).
Lucky I picked this year to move to the midwest. I've had literally more mornings below zero than I can count on both hands so far. Next Tuesday is supposed to be a high of -4 and -20 at night. Can't wait........... I've got the worst case of cabin fever I've ever experienced right now. Don't really know a ton of people, my poor wife is staying at home with my son all week long, and when we get time together when I'm not working its so damn cold out we don't even wanna go outside. Going to Aruba in March for a week and I can't wait.........hopefully by time I get back winter is over and the lakes are open so I can finally get the boat out for the year.
You have got to be kidding me... So crazy. We have closed school about 3 times so far this year because of the snow/cold... But it takes -20 temp or 4+ inches of snow to make that happen.
This pretty much. Remember the financial diversity within a school district. Not all families are equipped financially, or often, mentally (some bad parents out there), to give their kids clothing warm enough for below zero temps and wind chills while they wait for the bus or walk to school. It's all a liability. I'm not going to complain, though. I enjoy sleeping in:D
Yeah we have had several delays this year due to temps around 0 or below. Also have had cancelations with not much snow. I have a friend I work with from Ohio that laughs every time. Its legit the fact our area isnt used to such things...I know its crazy.
The Governor of LA and the mayor of New Orleans are already working on backdoor deals with contractors to clean up the mess.
Nope...The temps this morning went from 6 when my boys would have be getting on the bus to 11 when they actually got on it. The main difference was the sun was up.
The 2 hour thing never made sense to me. The other day it was actually colder 2 hours later. The wind picked up a little bit and the wind chill temp went down. Seems to me like it just causes chaos. Parents have to scramble and find ways to get kids to school and are late to work themselves. Cancel it all together or stay on time. I think it's just one of those things that has been grandfathered in as the thing to do with out much logical thought behind it.
That is "Poor-Man's Fertilizer"... it won't hurt you Hook. (unless you get in a vehicle any where south of Virginia).
At first I thought you were talking about that giant jug in the picture. Than I saw you from LA and saw there was snow in the yard. What you need to do is visit me in Wisconsin and I can tell you everything you need to know about what we like to call "snow". Also we will drink beer.
