More Chicago mayhem: 35 hurt, 7 killed in shootings

At least seven people were killed and 35 were injured since Friday night. The youngest victim was a 16-year-old girl who died after she was shot three times in the chest Saturday evening in the Englewood neighborhood.

Ten people were shot overnight Friday, and in one hour Sunday morning, three people were killed. The latest shooting happened just after midnight Monday when a 19-year-old was shot to death on the city's North Side.

The shootings mark the third weekend in a row with gunfire injuries totaling well into the double digits. Last weekend, 46 people were hurt and eight killed across Chicago. The previous weekend, 29 were injured and three were killed in shootings.

It seems the criminals rule the day in Chicago.

This is an every weekend occurence here for the past 3-4 months now. The first thing you hear on the news Monday morning is the weekend dead & wounded count. The vast majority of the shootings are gang related and take place in Englewood and other low-income neighborhoods. The rest of the city is fairly safe and free of high crime rates. It's a sad state of affairs around these parts.

It's only going to get worse. My aunt is a cop in the 12th district. My grandfather retired from the same one. New generation of gang bangers that think they are in a war like on their video games and don't realize that people don't get extra lives. They always hear three kids say "i didn't think they would die"

It very sad that these kids are so far removed from God and their purpose for being here that don't even care about taking anothers life or losing their own life:(

Think "Lord of the Fly's" when you think of what's going on in these kids heads.

I think the 24/7 media drama thats played on TV wherever you go is contributing to this as well. Kids think the world is going down hill and the truth is (and I'll get disagreed with here also) is the world is better today than it's EVER been before in the history of mankind. Don't believe me just shut off the TV and and stop reading the newspapers for a month and see if your attitude doesn't improve.

    I call BS on this news report. Clearly the reporter is mistaken, as it takes an act of God to possess a gun in the City of Chicago. Surely none of these fine, upstanding people could be breaking the law, and possessing an illegal firearm. I think we should put more restrictions on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Clearly the "lenient" ones that are already in place, up to and including complete bans, are too permissive and allow too many guns into the liberal utopia that is Chicago. Why, they have even solved the mystery of eternal life. No one ever dies in Chicago. Just look at the voter registrations for proof. {END SARCASM}

What a worthless city. Any other states want it? We'll sell it CHEAP.

Cultural? If you look at all the tv shows, docudramas, this is not cultural. No more than religion driven. This is murder and a law systems that hinders those whom would not and honor those who do....

Move out of Chicago and turn it into a Nation Wide Prison. And throw away the key.

I think they are still able to buy guns with Obama Bucks in Chicago. Seems his voter base is rapidly shrinking there because of it. What a coincidence.

That is why we live an hour West of the Chi with three dogs and plenty of guns. Most of the Chi is safe, but if you get in some parts you best be packing illegally.

There are NO gun shops in the city of Chicago.

Clearly what the city needs is more anti-gun laws. ;)

Closest gun shop to Chicago is Illinois gun works.
Near Harlem and grand ave which is basically right across the street from the Chicago city limit

I read today where more people have been killed (like 50% more) in Chicago this year, than US troops have been killed in Afganistan this year.

Makes you wonder where Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are. They were too busy crying out for a lone gunmen and single death in Florida, that they choose to ignore their own backyard. I guess the deaths of predominantly young black men at the hands of other young black men doesnt have the same ability to generate noteriety for so called activists. The media surely isn't picking up on this horrible trend. They are too busy fanning the flames of the zimmerman case with the release of jail cell recordings.

    Poverty,
    Lack of education
    No parents

It's going on all over America, but out larger cities are worst. Passing gun laws are not going to do diddle.

Yes the rev and al need to start doing something, their are some who have figured it out. The cost to fix this problem is high, and we do not have the cash.
