So I am thinking about trying my hand at some outdoor writing. I really enjoyed writing through college so I am going to see if I am any good. That being said what are some topics in the outdoor world that you like to read articles on? Do you prefer stories, instructional pieces, equipment reviews, or whatever else. I'm not sure where I will start just wondering what the main interest is here, since I will probably be linking by articles through here for feedback. I was thinking of doing a series on starting bowhunting on a budget, what do yall think of that? I appreciate any feedback.
If you ever write anything doing with "on a budget" be sure to include the extremes of what you think a budget could entail for some.....I mean seriously some are clueless sadly! Some people think putting in a food plot in on a budget includes just a "cheap" rental of a tractor with a drill vs some it is spray kill and seed heavy or use a garden tiller and sweat. Seen a bowhunting on a budget article even on here that made me laugh at their "budget" thoughts.
I enjoy reviews where the writer compares two (or more) items and tests them to see which performs better. And if you do any articles on hunting small acreage make sure the property is actually small.I remember reading an article on "how to hunt small acreage" and the writers "small" property was 300 acres.
Yes I agree, I started this lifestyle on a REAL cheap budget, still on one, and I relate to the "small hunting land" as well, one of my spots is about 6 acres
I like it when the author writes about a time they could have done something different or something they learned the hard way. Makes me feel less stupid for all the things I've done in the woods.
I like it when an author does his stuff in audiobook version so I don't have to bother reading it. I never know for sure what kind of an article is going to catch my attention and hold my interest. Deer nutrition, food plots, soil health and alternative crops are almost always going to get me to at least skim over it.
Good call. It's only been a successful method for 30 years. You and IO should form an anti-Durkin Facebook page. You can take turns wanking each other's online egos about how much you hate the man.
Good call I might just do that! Now if you would start writing again and get Mike to write some stuff you wouldn't need to post so many of Durkins Walker bashing articles! Think about it.
I'd call being an outdoor writer for 30+ years and working for some of the more noted publications in the outdoor field being successful. You guys are like the Trump supporters who think the man can do no wrong, no matter how many times people point out rational flaws in his behavior or suggested policies. You act like Scott Walker is your daddy.
For one I think Trump is a buffoon and Walker has done some good for the state as a whole but everything he has tried to do for the outdoors man/women of Wisconsin has failed miserable. I never said I supported Walker I just think Durkins writing shows that he blames Walker for every little thing whether he had anything to do with it or not. Durkin sounds just like the union reps that were crying for the recall, he should stick to the non political points in his writing and I might enjoy his writing.
He puts his opinion out in the public forum to be available for scrutiny. People shouldn't stop scrutinizing it because others disagree with their scrutiny either. All crassness aside.
When he stops publically rubber stamping with his articles everything the DNR puts out I will stop bashing him.
I don't disagree with that. I just like giving Mater a hard time. Busting his old, saggy balls, if you will.
Do me a favor every time you post one of his articles with the link in the hunting forum just label it "Durkin" or "not for Mater". Stop looking in bathroom window you perv!
