For years my wife and the kids have gone to the Renaissance Festival with some of the members of her family. I have never been able to go due to work. Well that all changed today as I attended for the first time. GOODNESS. I felt like I was caught in the middle of a Star Trek convention and a hippie gathering. It was bizarro world. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed many parts of the festival and my children were thoroughly entertained. However, I could not get over how many absolutely insane people inhabited the festival.

The only "up" side to the festival was the costumes......

Yup. There are some weirdos there for sure. I remember having fun though, but it's been at least 10 years...

I think I'm gonna need more costume photos to get a better understanding of the crowd. Either that or directions to the festival ;)

Went with the wife for the first time 2 years ago. We saw "kings" with their wenches kissing all of the girls in turn. People really go into character for this. The stunt show was amazing, but porno ish as well. Not complaining, but man what some freaks.

My wife pointed out how I look at camp with all camo on and all my buddies looking the same well...called her a hater and moved on, lol.

Maybe this is what they're doing at the club-thingy a couple doors down from our dojo... we train on Tuesday and Friday nights, and there's been more than one Friday night I've walked out to meet a throng of people dressed like this standing outside. Usually, the guys have a ton of makeup on and some weird symbolic scrollwork all over their legs too... perhaps a mixture of this sort of thing and some Goth-type weirdos?

Well in my defense... baseball ??? I remember my brother talking me into to going to Minnesota for a weekend to see the Twins play when I was 19. I saw them lose not once but 3 times, a bunch of drunk guys and I was bored out of my mind.

I would have much rather went to something like this... beer and skimpy clad wenches would have been the icy on the cake !!! :nana:

Now that I am married and oldish... I can't get the wife to bring me a beer in skimpy clothes. Telling her... " bring me a beer, wench !! "... could get me hurt !!

A lot of folks think we are weird as we sit in a tree making grunt and bleat noises and clash horns together ... different strokes ... and no, I don't do it nor do I know anyone sans Vito that does ;)

Yes I agree with you here. However judging by the people in the background of the first picture, it appears the gem in the center of the shot is quite possibly a diamond in the rough at this event.

We have something called the Renaissance Fair not to far from where I live and I have to say that I enjoy it very much and try to visit it with my wife once a year (although we've missed the last two).

Our first date was to one of these events.. about 8 years ago.

I live close enough to the culture of a major city to where I don't think these events are really all that weird.

Like the preacher has already said.. many of those same folks would think we're strange for spending so much time chasing deer and sometimes with such passion for it.

I don't think they're weird.. they just like to enjoy life.. maybe not in the same way you or I do.. but at all the events I've visited they really seem to have a great time doing what they do.

Duke, I do agree with you. They seem very happy. I AM a WEIRD person, so I am not judging them at all. It was bizarro world for most people.
