Ironically, I'm a Technology teacher, but at times I really don't jump into some technological trends (twitter/blogging, smartphones, DVR, mp3 players, etc just to name a few). The latter, however, is now a must have for me. I workout regularly, but recently strapped my wife's iPod on, and it actually really makes it more tolerable (I would hesitate to quite use the word "fun"), and actually very motivating. Out of curiousity (and extreme boredom), how many of you feel the same way? Or do you think it has little to no effect?
I refuse to run with an iPod. I think I'm the last person on earth without one. I might consider wearing one in the gym just to drown out the horrible music that is blasting through the speakers and all the roid heads grunting and trying to converse with each other. But I would never run with an iPod. Mainly b/c I use running as my therapy, and there is nothing more enjoyable to me than an early morning run down a rural trail. Just the sound of my breath, feet hitting the earth, and the world waking up. It's wonderful.
Hey Matt, I have kind of a personal policy never to work out. I do however plow snow in a skid steer loader and having a mp3 player makes all the difference. remember when a sony walkman cassette player was cool ?
While that paints a memorable picture, I don't have the luxury of running on trails (mostly due to time and lack of availability), so it does get boring and monotonous:D (just giving ya hard time, btw), but I definitely can see running where you do being relaxing. Plus I enjoy it for lifting as well which I do more often than cardio. I hear you on the ipod, though. I'm very anti-apple. I will be getting a sony or creative labs...no more than $80 after my Best Buy discounts.
For the record: I just did a quick work-out here in my lonely, cold, dark hotel room, while listening to some music. Here are some samples to what I just worked out to: Mat and Kim - Daylight The Gaslight Anthem - Even Cowgirls Get The Blues Modest Mouse - Parting of the Sensory Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
I work out with my ipod or iphone all the time. I wouldn't hit the gym without it. On a side note I find it ironic that you are a technology teacher and yet no "twitter/blogging, smartphones, DVR, mp3 players, etc just to name a few". I think most if not all of those are past the trend stage. :D Sorry couldn't resist a little jab....
