Well, this morning I decided to throw a rest on the Sentinel and shoot my first arrows out of it. I set up my target in the basement and nock an arrow... start drawing back and SNAP!!! I am standing there with my heart pounding wondering what the hell just happened. I set the bow down and took a minute to calm down. After looking it over I found that one of the cables broke right at the end loop... not sure how/why that happened but I am just glad that I wasn't half through my draw cycle yet. I looked the bow over and everything is fine, now I just need to get new cables. It was scary when it happened, but it is a reminder to always check over all of your equipment before shooting, no matter how new/old it is.
That IS weird, Jason; not sure if I've heard of that happening before, either. I'm sure you've thought of this, but be sure to check the post for a burr. Glad you and the bow are ok...
Greg... I checked but didn't find any. It was definetly strange. Jeff, It is a 2009, it was a left-over, I have only had it a few days. I'm not sure if it was a floor model and if customers had been in contact with it or not. Sliv, thanks, it's a quick fix, thankfully it wasn't any worse. Here is a pic of the end-loop where it broke.
Jason - Sorry to hear this happened. On a side note, I know it appears that nothing happened, but please have your dealer pull the cams, and axles, and roll the axles on a flat surface and check the cams over thoroughly to make sure nothing was damaged/bent. It only takes a few minutes and can prevent any future disasters.
Solid advice. First thing I thought of, before seeing you pic was that the knot came loose and the end loop let go, but that isn't really how I see it happening with it served and all. I am curious as to what the "cause" is. Keep us up on what your dealer says when they investigate.
Matt and Ben, I plan on taking it to the shop sometime this weekend just to get it all checked out and re-assembled. Ben, I also thought that maybe the knot came loose at first but after looking it over and seeing the break I just don't know what happened. Thanks for the well-wishes guys, I'll be sure to update with what we find out at the shop.
Glad to hear you're OK Jason. Looking at that pic it looks like that loop was sliced. The part that broke is not frayed at all. The other side does of the loop does look frayed. I'm not sure how that could have happened though. Definitely follow Matt and Ben's advice and get her torn down and checked out. I hope everything is fine.
And......fopr GOD'S SAKES don't post this on AT. You'll get 1,000 fanboys calling you beelzebub - the troll.......and a 1,000 haters telling everyone how you're the prime example of all that is wrong with Bowtech. If you're lucky, though....maybe no one from the factory will tell you it's "user-error".
That's EXACTLY what I thought when I first saw that pic! What I really can't figure is why/how two seperate parts of that loop are damaged (in between, the serving is fine) instead of it being in just one spot? It does look sliced somehow.
I agree with you guys who think it looks like it was sliced/cut. It almost would appear that there was a problem when the string was first made, and it was somehow missed, served over so it wasn't seen, and then "BANG" it was revealed!!! Glad to hear you're okay, might want to try a HOYT next time..............:D This is why I'd NEVER own a BLOWTECH, HOYT's are the only GOOD BOW made, all the rest are....... ..... Oops, I made a slight mistake in my calculations, it would appear that I too own a Bowtech........:D
??? Wow that's a weird spot for a break like that. I'd suspect a slice someplace else on it that was more exposed but that spot is pretty well protected and the string is even further protected by the serving there. Being that it's a left over floor model I suspect a serious dry fire someplace in its history. RJ had some good advise about getting it checked over. I'm taking the bashing another direction; I hate 452X string material! It just can't handle abrasion like UltraCam can!
