For tough game like elk, I could not DISAGREE more. The type of head you use is extremely important. Especially if the shot is not perfect. The experienced elk hunters here agree. I would listen to them and not be sorry.
I have shot Rage 2 blade 100 gr open, closed, one blade open....etc and never had any arrow flight problems. Hit where I aim. On the do not open? not sure on that anything can happen but I have never had one not open......never lost a blade either. Would I use them on elk? No...I would go with the G5 Montec or Slick tricks.
My dad shoots the same set up as you and shoots a 540 grain arrow and has gone clean through two elk shoulder blades, oh and he shoots a swhacker 125 grain
Ah...no, not a good idea. Elk are as tuff as they come and expandable Broadheads are generally not a good choice, flimsily extra large expandable like rage extremes are about the worst choice. One lung an elk and you can kiss his *** good by... Shoot a fixed blade of moderate size and call it a day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I used the rage extremes for the first time this year and i shot my buck at 20 yards straight through the shoulder and the arrow came out halfway through the other side of the deer, he ran about 40 yards before dropping...now on a elk it might be different...
