I hunt public land in NY... I taught myself to bow hunt... Took me 8 years before I finally got a doe... I didn't know anything about bow hunting... I harvested a yearling... They only got bigger after that... That yearling is possibly my greatest trophy... I didn't quit... I don't think the two of you should quit... Hunting public land is tough... Much more rewarding when it happens...

my partner and I hunt public land in Illinois and have had some of our best hunting times together there. we hunt Shawnee national forest and have had both good and poor years. I hunt public land in florida and it takes work . got to get out and find the sign and become deer smart. nobody is going to put you in a stand unless you pay the big dollars for a guided hunt ,and then there is no guarantee of success. keep working at it and it will come .

37, hunting only 6 years haven't killed a thing yet as far as deer. I feel your pain to a point I've done everything I can think of above and beyond what every hunter I know does , as far as effort , stealth , scouting ,etc. Ive come close three times my friend who's been hunting for going on twenty years has only shot at one deer and never recovered. Otherwise he literally never even sees a deer. My point or advice/rhetorical question here is , Are u sure your taking it serious enough?
Cuz like a few people said 2000 thousand acres and you don't even see one...your overlooking an obvious bad habit/mistake your making over and over again.
In closing , get back to basics give the deer their due credit unlike my friend wants to admit they're smarter than u may be willing to admit. Wind , scent , silence , location.....

Buckeye Jay was on my team last year. No wonder now he didn't contribute any points. Dude hasn't seen a deer in 8 years. I will see if I can dig up some old posts of his. Buckeye was in his early 20's though. Velvet buck said he was 37 I think.

Don't think its the same guy, but maybe. His posts were a little confusing. In our team thread last year he said he shot two doe, hunts public land, but has permission to hunt a couple private properties and his parents have land and one of the biggest bucks ever shot (poached?) in the state was shot on the neighboring property.

Well now, that was a bit entertaining. This season will be my second in over 40 years so might as well say I am a full blown green horn. Use a X-bow due to shoulder injuries. Missed a doe last year - bolt hit a twig in route. Saw the twig move and the bolt went high & right. Lesson learned. This season I have two tree stands and one ground blind. 3 cameras out. Not sure how the deer will be moving as crop rotation changed but still see them live in the same area. My hunting ground borders my acreage so quick easy access. What the camera's show will determine when I hunt where. I seldom find a post on this forum that don't have useful information including this one. Just have recognize it.

His first name was BuckeyeJay, then he signed up a 2nd time as something else when he got kicked off. I can't remember what his name was that time. He does the same thing every time. Gets along with ever one and ask lots of questions, then a switch flips and he post something and starts bashing something and blaming every thing but him self. Don't know why, but I can spot him ever time he post. Something about him rubs me the wrong way.

Haha, could be. But I'm not one to bash that, I'm probably not much better.
