I have no problems feeding my family lmao I own a business so I'm good and I get to hunt the whole season but like I said I'm helping out a great friend of mine who's been like my brother since we've been 5 he's done alot for me in the past so yes I offer money to get us some grest hunts and memories so he doesn't quit and will keep hunting its just disappointing seeing someone go threw this that deserves it.
Lol, that's what I was wondering. I stopped trying to find logic in what DNR does a long time ago. They often have motives that are suspect at best and sometimes have little to do with actual game management. Ours turned loose river otters back in the 80's and created a natural disaster in doing so. Where are you in he state and what public land have you tried? Have you tried running any ads offering to lease hunting ground?
Yes I have posted on Facebook and Craigslist and archerytalk im in northwest illinois by LaSalle county.
I work with several guy's from southern Illinois...they consistently kill and get pic's of big bucks year in and year out. One friend has taken two B&C off Shawnee. All they hunt is public.
I'd try several local news papers. I don't believe there is no one out there willing to lease land to hunters for that kind of money.
Start out by telling the truth and getting your story straight! Here, in your OP you say it's to feed your family, then later you mention how you're a business owner and have no issues feeding your family. Which is it?
The problem is not the money they just don't trust anyone any more from the previous generations of hunters messing it up I guess no one will give you the time to even hear your offer half the time .I mean I'd sign a waiver of needed I'm fully insured I don't see any issues besides I think the trust factor no one trusts anyone anymore.
I said how is a guy suppose to feed his family being a single dad of 3 talking about my friend not me read all the posts
If you enjoy being outdoors and there are no deer, maybe you ought to look into squirrel hunting. Or maybe drive further to some different public land, or maybe apply for some out of state stuff, or maybe do what ever it takes like everybody else does. Help some farmer put up hay for free for a couple of summers and get to know him. Then after a couple of beers and a hard day's work, throw your sob story on him
I've tried he doesn't wana be a laborer lol I run a small construction crew and I've tried but he likes what he does.
I did read all of the post! And in it you say "when were (we're) doing this to feed our familys" (families).
Yeah well as long as it's a paper in the county you want to hunt in, it's worth a try. The town I live in is the same way but the local county paper has a large distributorship so a lot of eyes hit it and ads are relatively cheap. There's almost always a landowner somewhere that needs some cash that you would be a convenience to. I know I'm a long ways out of state but I doubt people change that much from here to there. A word of advice. I know you're frustrated but doing things the way you have here on the forum today is probably part of your problem. Coming into a forum and starting out by bitching and moaning and calling all fellow sportsmen a-holes is largely self defeating. If there was anyone here willing and able to help you, after reading that post all you're going to get is a big eff off. If you take that sort of approach everywhere you go, you're turning people off the first time and every time you open your mouth. If you're asking for help and places to hunt, you're going to have to be willing to kiss a lot of butt, be gracious and show some humility. People respond least well to abrasive, pompous pricks asking for help. Not calling you that but as an example of both ends of the spectrum.
The excuses you provide and your explanations seem pretty weak. There should be no reason that the two of you can't get on at least some decent hunting in the Shawnee Nat forest unless you are beyond clueless as hunters. Sure it's gonna be a drive but sounds like even a trip or two per year could provide better results than weekend after weekend of what you've been doing. I'm getting ready to drive a couple hours to a farm just to tweak a stand and run 3 cameras. If I can do that multiple times per week then it seems like someone desperate for a hunting spot could make a 4 hour drive to decent public hunting land. You live in a specific area that is already wrung out as far as deer hunting goes. This shouldn't be that hard to grasp. Every piece of ground worth having in NW Illinois is either already hunted or owned by someone who made their decision long ago for whatever reason not to lease or allow hunting. Not every part of every state is in this situation. I still have permission places and walk away from lease opportunities every year. You might have to expand your horizons beyond a 30 minute drive from home. Just sayin. BTW - Illinois probably isn't a top 5 state for whitetails any more. It's ok to look elsewhere.
Look up Dan Infalt on Youtube and read all books by John Trout jr. ( Amazon)Then get your a** back out there and hunt smart. Quitters never win and winners never quit. Wisconsin has tons of public land to hunt free and there are plenty of deer IF you scout and hunt smart you'll score. Keep at it and do your research.
