I have 1 stand and 1 camera at my buddies land where Ill get to hunt for only the 2nd time this season this weekend. There is one real good 8 that visits my feeder near my stand, but it's directly south of the stand. This weekend is supposed to be a North wind, which will blow right into the little clearing where the deer eat. Do u think I should try and hope he doesn't wind me, or wait a few weeks when I can go again and hope the wind is better?

Can you hunt south of the opening?

Yeah, I would just be extra careful about my scent control. I've had deer down wind of me many times that didn't even know if I was there. If you're in a climber, just make sure to be extra high to get your scent up and in the air.

Just climb higher, or move south and ground hunt

My suggestion is either wait for the right wind or make an adjustment like hanging an additional stand further south...

I would try it , I have found if the wind is steady and fairly strong the deer dont wind you as easly . But the tend to be spookey and pick up on the slightest move . Go for it .

I were in this situation I wouldnt let it keep me from hunting. Id try and ground hunt it from a favorable wind spot.

Like others have said I'd try and hunt from the ground...but if you can get in there and move your stand do that...either way its what you have, work with it...and don't get stuck on only hunting from a treestand...be versatile.

I hunt no matter the wind. Use deer or fox urine to help cover your scent in addition to scent prevention on yourself. I rarely rarely ever get busted regardless the wind. Deer see me draw my bow more often than smell me and I attribute that to using scent prevention body wash and scent prevention spray on my clothes.

I would with a decoy (use deer urine on decoy). Set the decoy up so that when they circle it to catch the wind, they don't make it to your downwind side. I've been successful this season with a decoy in the "wrong wind for that stand". I used the decoy and the wind to my advantage.

My decoy is also my Shooter Buck 3d target. The antlers are removeable so he's transgender.

    That's a good idea SOIL.

I think the general concensus would be don't hunt on a wrong wind. However, we've all hunted when the wind was right, and had deer come from the wrong direction than they are "supposed to", so its really up to you. You know your spot, what your odds would be if you did hunt it on a wrong wind.

    Why not move the stand?

You know your hunting area better than anyone else but consider this, if you don't give it a try you will never know. I have a few areas that I have to be mindful of wind direction but I always try to have different setups for the different wind in the same area, ie, ground blind, another treestand etc. IMO, I would say try to work with what you have but if you are close to a bedding area and the wind would blow your scent into that, i would say stay away.

OK ...I'll play ... there are only a few instances where I will hunt a wind that is wrong ..... if it is early morning and the thermals will work in my favor or if it is afternoon/night and the thermals will work in my favor ... if you can't move your spot to downwind and still be successful, then don't hunt it...

Wind from your stand site is only one thing to consider ... wind direction while walking in is a factor as well...

When possible, move the stand. But, some locations are one way in... one way out for whatever reason. I don't know about where you hunt but our wind changes direction constantly unless a front is moving through. Watch the smoke from a campfire and count the number of times it changes direction. My solution is usually to hunt higher but this takes even more practice and more caution on shot angles... There seems to be something magical about 22 feet for me... high enough to reduce wind problems but still low enough to make the shot.

I can't move my stand. I am limited on the trees to hang this 15ft ladder stand. Ill look tomorrow evening if there are any holes south of my feeder I can sit in, so the wind will be in my face. The only problem is I don't know where the deer come from as I didn't see any in my only sit of the year a few weeks ago.

I'd say hunt it. If you don't know where the deer are coming from, you might need to move your stand anyway. Use the stand and hope for luck or still hunt/scout from another location. You need to figure out their patterns before you go for a solid stand location if you're after a particular deer.
