Where the window of opportunity for seeing/killing a mature buck was basically only the 1st 15-20 minutes of shooting light?
Yes I would. After that time if I was seeing does I would stick around for that or I would pack out and head towards a spot to hunt that evening.
I'm hunting any locations that gives me the opportunity to see/kill a mature buck, no matter how short or early that time period may be.
I would also. Like the guys are saying, it just takes that one moment. Later, work on hanging another stand or get some rest so you will be fresh for an evening hunt.
I usually hold out unreasonable hope that something is going to walk by for me to shoot. While doing so I enjoy a fine game of Scrabble on my phone. Triple word scores are the bomb, yo! And to answer the original question YES, I would and do hunt a spot like this. I have a small ~10 acre patch of woods surrounded by all AG fields. I'll sneak into the woods bright and early, but if I don't see anything within the first 30 minutes of light chances are there are no deer in that woodlot that day. However, it's the only way I can hunt this spot and I have seen some good bucks there over the years so I will continue to hunt it this way. In fact, this fall I'm really hoping to score an early season buck from this spot.
Go in "late" to a second set-up. I do it several times a year. Definitely stay there a little longer than you think you need to and then reposition to another spot. I took a nice buck 5 years ago two minutes after getting into my second spot of the morning. I have taken several deer over the years on my second set-up of the morning. I have a great stand that I will ONLY walk into after daylight so I know that I can watch for deer and not be bumping them in the dark. You just need to know the pattern of movement pretty well to pick that right second set-up. Good luck.
I would only hunt that situation if I wanted to kill that buck. If I did hunt it, I'd get out of there after after an hour and either go home or hunt somewhere else.
I've got a spot that if they don't come thru in the first hour they already did. Never go home, go to another spot or chase other critters!
YES! I have a few spots like that on different pieces of property. If I'm not seeing a buck in the first 30 minutes creeping his butt back to bed, it aint happening. The best part is I can enter and exit virtually undetected (most of the time). When I hunt those spots I give it an hour then pick up and head to a good late morning stand. It's useless staying there anymore than that.
