Here's a question I have. The land I primarily hunt is flooded with mostly White Oaks. Actually the road its located off of is named White Oak Drive. The deer love the acorns from this area. Would it technically be considered baiting to gather some of the acorns from the area and scatter them closer to your trail cam to increase the traffic in that general area? Just an idea I had and would like to do to increase pic numbers. But I definitely don't want to do anything illegal because baiting is never permitted in RI.

    What's your opinion?

In Indiana yes, anytime you place anything not at it's natural spot with deer consumption in mind it would be considered baiting. I wouldn't do it in season myself, but a quick call to a CO could clear it up for you in your state.

I would call it baiting but wouldn't hurt to ask.

In Illinois that is considered baiting as well. It's not illegal to hunt over the acorns where they fall naturally, but once you start gathering them up and moving them to a concentrated area it's considered baiting. As others said you'll need to check with your local CO but I would be willing to bet you'll find out that it is indeed illegal.

I kind of had the same assumption that it would be considered baiting. But I figured I'd throw it out there and ask anyway. Makes sense since your actually placing them somewhere else even though they are from the same area.

My new rule of thumb, if you have to ask if it is baiting, it probably is.

Totally agree! Haha. Well hopefully if anyone else out there has the same question they'll have an answer now. :)

Depends on how the officers would interprit this. I would say no. but in order to increase activity you would need to move many acorns

My motto is "When in Doubt, Don't!" Until you check and know for sure. Like others said, your local CO will know.
