Sittin here tossin around the idea of puttin my mp6 out on video mode. Ive never used a cam for anythin but pictures but watchin the crush's live cam feed has got me itchin to catch some clips. Testing it the quality seemed pretty damn good for bein a lower price model. I wanna move it from my mineral spot to watching over my clover plot. It's not a big plot so I think it should work well. Just wondered if there were any tips or tricks for gettin good video clips.
I have done video mode before on a Moultrie I used to have. Setup is about the same as you would just for taking pictures. It is pretty cool to see the video but your battery life really takes a hit, at least it did with mine. I ended up just going back to a 2-burst picture setting so that I wouldn't have to come back as often and funk up the area to change out batteries.
Well bein it's a covert an has been out since January (3rd mp6, 1 set of batteries ) I'm tryin to beat this thing down but it's a freakin work horse! I'm plannin on settin it up an leavin it till September to kill off the batteries before season starts. Then yankin all my cams outta the woods before season starts.
Long battery life is a good problem to have. I haven't found a camera yet that has impressed me on battery life too much, I have a Stealth Cam now that works pretty decent but after reading all the good reviews about Covert cameras I may have to pick one up.
Video mode is cool it's takes forever to go through all the vids though. I have all my cams on picture mode right now, but as the season progresses I plan to put some on video mode watching scrapes.
Yeah I figured it would take way longer to go through them, I just wanna use it to see exactly where their entering an exitin the plot. First time ive ever hinge cut trees an I'm thinkin I may not have done such a great job at makin the entrance/exits, might have to put up some neon signs pointin to em hahahah
Hell yeah! Ill be postin em whenever I decide to pull it. I sure would love to see some clips of some of the bucks you got runnin around!!!
I would suggest video on a 2013 Red 40 or 2013 Black 60 (hd with audio) The quality just isn't there with the MP6 in video mode.
Pat if I didn't have my red40 out on the other property I woulda used it but bein I've kinda thrown their pattern off a bit I've been stayin out as long as possible. I got it out an all set up, since I didn't have a good tree an to broke to buy a stic-n-pic I took a tree bout 3 inches around cut it down, dug a hole with post hole diggers prolly 2 foot deep, sat the tree I cut down up in the hole, packed it in with dirt, nailed a branch on to over hang for a scape an hung the cam. Ill have to get some pics up
Hard to beat video with sound. I have used video 100% the last 2-3 years and love it. It takes a little longer to sort through them but to me it's worth every minute.
Best purchase you'll make This year hands down! I absolutely love mine, best cam in my line up. But then again all my cams are Coverts so there all good!!!
I'm starting to love videos! I do set my cameras differently. With pics and a 4+ GB card, I set my cam on 3 shot bursts with 5-10 second breaks. On videos, I go for 20-25 seconds with a 20-50 second pause. If it was over a hot mineral site, I'd pause longer. I'm also switching to only use my black flashes for video. Red IR's glow big time for videos. While only some creatures pick off my red IR cams in photo mode, they nearly all pick it off in video mode. Not so, with the black flash. Night time videos eat batteries like crazy! So depending on what you're set up on, be prepared for swapping batteries. Here's a wolf reacting to a red glow:
That's nuts! I think I may have messed up then, cuz I have noticed that the red glow from pics startle em a tad but they don't really bust out from it. So the red glow for 20 seconds may just ruin it
Maybe, maybe not. I'm not going to take the chance is all. Blade busted the Red glow once this summer
