I'm determined to get a kayak of some sort... I don't want to spend a lot of money on it though... If I'm gonna drop a grand in it.... It's gonna be a jon boat. But for $300, used of course and quite a bit of driving distance... Do you think this would be a good starting point or should I look elsewhere... I just want something for the river and electric lakes. Future Beach Trophy 126
if you're only looking to spend $300, that would be a good one to start with. I personally like rod holders more in a staging position towards the front of the boat or between my legs. I started with a sit-in kayak and upgraded to a sit-on-top after a few years. I also spent $1100 on mine. At 12'6", that kayak might be a little large for rivers for maneuverability, but would be great for reservoirs or open water. Also consider what you'll be using it for...longer than a couple hours, that sit-in will put a hurting on your back and legs.
It's a 10ft 6" I think... I might need to double check that... And I've heard terrible reviews on the seat... But everything else has been very positive...for the price... and he dropped the price to $275... I'm basically just trying to talk myself into it... I really don't need one... But I'm going to keep wanting one until I get it and either get bit or sell it and move on to my next "want" ... :D
If the above model is correct "126", it usually refers to the overall length. If you feel that you'll use it, its a good deal. Just consider what you'll be using it for, how easily you can transport it and how long you can stay seated like that. I use mine for all day floats, quick trips to the lake and duck hunting. I spent the money on mine because its what i needed.
I'm basically just trying to talk myself into it... I really don't need one... But I'm going to keep wanting one until I get it and either get bit or sell it and move on to my next "want." Hmmmmm? I would sit on this one a while. You may want to spend the money on a treadmill or an exercise bike later.
I'd buy for $275. Don't expect greatness from the kayak, but it should allow you to know if kayak fishing is something that you would want to continue doing, so in the next few years jump up to something a bit better.
I just bought that exact model. I like it so far. A seat up grade isnt too difficult or expensive. $275 is a great price
If I were in the market and looking to try it out. I would definitely pick that one up for $275. Looks like a pretty good deal to me.
I had actually thought about that. Lol. I'm probably gonna go ahead and get it Saturday, for 275 its hard not too. I've rented cheap crappy ones several times, only flipped once on my first trip and I've been wanting one to take other places for quite a while.
How stable is it? I realize that I'm not going to be standing up to fish or anything of that sort... but I don't want to feel like I'm tipping everytime I fart either. :D
Very stable. The wind kicked up hard out on the lake enough for white caps and it was fine. In some shallow water I was leaning around seeing how it felt & seemed very stable to me.
I love mine, I think I paid like 340 new for it. Never had any stability issues with it and it does the job it needs to do.
So I went and picked up my kayak today... and came out better than I thought. I got the yak, paddle, Anchor system, and Life jacket for the $275 price. Looks hardly used at all... I'm pretty stoked about it. Now if it would just stop raining so I could test it out.
