I know there are some bad ones out there, and really bad ones that have been fired, but I think any one would be hard pressed to come up with a worse GM than the Minnesota Timberwolves David Kahn. He is absolutely dreadful.
I'm not sure about the worst GM, because there are other factors. I can however, name the worst owner in sports, and without question it is David Glass of the KC Royals.
The Pohlad family for the Twins has to be up there for owners. They are one of the richest in baseball, cried they needed a new stadium to bring in free agents and havent done a thing since they got the stadium. Glen Taylor of the Wolves has to be in there too. He let McHale run the team into the dirt, tried to make a dirty deal and cost the team 6 first round draft choices and has kept Kahn even after he has made bad choice after bad choice.
How about Matt Millen... Believe he was more president and CEO but believe he had his hands in a lot of the GM duties too... Looks like during his eight-year tenure as head of Detroit - he had the worst eight-year record in the history of the modern NFL (31-97).... When you think about it - almost defies belief.... Basically his teams averaged about 4 wins a year for 8 years!!! You could probably start picking guys off the street that could have done better than that...
Totally disagree. He wants to win and is willing to spend money. What more do you want from a GM/owner. He has also been quite successful, just not recently.
Hey Bud, Al Davis' contract expired in Oct. 2011 when he died, you can't blame him anymore.... :D Tough one to determine who the WORST GM is in all of sports, Millen for a while certainly was a pretty strong front-runner in the NFL, whomever runs the Royals and Seattle Mariners certainly have some potential to be chosen, and in NBA, though he may have been one of the greatest players ever, second only the THE GREATEST The KING LeBron James, Michael Jordan has been a disaster in his efforts to be a basketball executive, from his experiment in Washington to the Charlotte disaster, he's been as miserable a failure on the management side as he was a success on the player side!!!
Yes... I am aware... Don't mean to speak ill of the dearly departed but he definitely made some rather odd decisions that took the great Oakland Raiders to almost total irrelevancy.
Seriously??? The Pohlad's have 2 world series rings and many division titles...just because the Twin's are bad the past two years does not erase the past several decades...the current team does not suck due to lack of payroll (13th highest in league which puts them between theh Dodgers and Mets which are much larger markets)
Did you only read Pohlads? They did exactly what I said and because they over paid for Mauer and have made bad deals their payroll is where it is. What big name free agent have they gone and signed? 1991 was a LONG time ago.
IMO the Pohlads are pretty good owners... While the twins haven't been all that great the last 2 years, if you look at the last 10 years as a whole and they have been very competitive over that time... Their payroll has also grown significantly since they built their new ballpark. Based on USA Today's #'s - they are carrying the 13th highest payroll in the majors for 2012 @ 94mil... 17 teams lower than them including 'big names' like the Mets, Cubs and Braves... http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/salaries/team/ Sure, Mauer hasn't been as good battling injuries, Morneu has been hurt - some of the pitchers didn't develop like they hoped - but you can't win them all... :-)
Yeah, well there are around 20 other teams that wish they had won a WS as recent as 1991...or still looking for their first...they must have even worse owners than the Twins huh?
