The B1G is around 56 combined point dogs overall in their bowl games... A dog in every single game. That's 7 games in all. All the B1G has to do is win one game to surpass expectations!
Football in ACC country is a bridge from baseball/lacrosse to Basketball. Basketball is king. No one around here thinks ACC football is spectacular. Big 10 fans like to throw around all time records as well. Sure they were good programs in the 50-80's. But recent history would suggest otherwise. We as fans are truly ripped off with no true governing body to regulate schedules. Who truly wouldnt want to see Ohio play Alabama or Georgia. Instead they get Maryland to join their ranks. Its hard to make fun of the ACC when Maryland is considered an elite program to include. I joke around to ruffle feathers but unless elite teams and programs really play one another we are stuck watching Alabama play Western Carolina and The Ohio playing Miami(oh). Its garbage maneuvers like this that keep the arguments and conjecture going.
Ohio State Total Record VS SEC 7-11-2 Ohio State VS SEC in Bowl Games 0-9 Ohio State VS Kentucky and Vanderbilt 6-1 So 6 of 7 "The" Ohios's wins against the SEC come against Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Arguable the cannon fodder for the SEC. So when "The" Ohio fans base their arguments on superiority and having an awesome program, I am curious as to what evidence they are pointing to. With a real playoff their is no doubt in my mind, that "The" Ohio and maybe Michigan would win their theoretcial divisions and advance to the playoffs. This would be similar to NFL teams that win in traditionally weak divisions like the NFC west. However, it is only in actually playing one another can you have a leg to stand on. Using the same metrics of Big Ten and BCS apologists I can presume that a CFL champion who wins the Grey Cup is theoretically a better team than the NY Giants who won out the regular season at only 9-7 but then won the superbowl. Its all garbage until they meet on the field.
Not sure what you are trying to prove here.. I am not against the playoff. Fact is only the best teams (for the most part) make BCS games. Another fact, tOSU is 6-3 in those games. So fact of the matter is tOSU has competed with and more than held their own against the nations elite. So, explain to me what you are trying to get at. -Friday, January 1, 1999 – Nokia Sugar Bowl: No. 4 Ohio State (10–1, At-large) 24, No. 6 Texas A&M (11–2, Big 12 champion) 14 -Friday, January 3, 2003 – Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (National Championship): No. 2 Ohio State[SUP][22][/SUP] (13–0, BCS No. 2, Big Ten champion) 31, No. 1 Miami (FL) (12–0, BCS No. 1, Big East champion) 24 (2 OT) -Friday, January 2, 2004 – Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: No. 5 Ohio State (10–2, At-large) 35, No. 10 Kansas State (11–3, Big 12 champion) 28 -Monday, January 2, 2006 – Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: No. 4 Ohio State (9–2, Automatic "3–4 Rule"[SUP][21][/SUP]) 34, No. 6 Notre Dame (9–2, Automatic[SUP][26][/SUP][SUP][27][/SUP]) 20 -Monday, January 8, 2007 – Tostitos BCS National Championship: No. 2 Florida (11–1, BCS No. 2, SEC champion) 41, No. 1 Ohio State (12–0, BCS No. 1, Big Ten champion) 14 -Monday, January 7, 2008 – Allstate BCS National Championship: No. 2 LSU (11–2, BCS No. 2, SEC champion), 38, No. 1 Ohio State (11–1, BCS No. 1, Big Ten champion) 24 -Monday, January 5, 2009 – Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: No. 3 Texas (11–1, Automatic "3–4 Rule"[SUP][21][/SUP]) 24, No. 10 Ohio State (10–2, At-large) 21 -Friday, January 1, 2010 – Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi: No. 8 Ohio State (10–2, Big Ten Champion) 26, No. 7 Oregon (10–2, Pac-10 Champion) 17 -Tuesday, January 4, 2011 – Allstate Sugar Bowl: No. 6 Ohio State[SUP]*[/SUP] (11–1, At-Large) 31 vs. No. 8 Arkansas (10–2, At-Large) 26
You may not be against a playoff. The fans all want one. But obviously the powers that be at your program are. They booked Vanderbilt as an SEC opponent again for 2013 and 2014. Vanderbilt, really? Trying to pad that alltime SEC record. They don't push for an organizing body to control schedules and create a real playoff, not a 4 game playoff. Wouldn't you as a fan like to see them play a decent team. As for assuming the best teams make BCS games ask Georgia if that's the case. It a sham that is getting worse as more teams become competitive outside of traditional conferences. Not to mention the conferences keep changing to capture TV revenues anyway. What I'm getting at is The Ohio state fans here are apologists for a system and program that at the end of the day proves nothing. They play no one of consequence. If you want to get over the SEC inferiority complex play an SEC team thats not Vanderbilt. I'm not even a fan of an SEC school. i just like to watch good football.
Apologist? LAMO, you have got to be kidding me. I have never, ever stuck up for the BCS system here. Don't speak for what you do not know. I have for years posted in support of a playoff on this forum. Plays no one of consequence? Find another program outside of Ohio State that schedules bigger marquee out of conference games. You won't.
What big marquee game has OSU scheduled recently? I know they had a home/home with Texas awhile ago. Who else?
I guess I could say Notre Dame since they are not really in a conference so all their games are out of conference. What team this season out of conference did The Ohio defeat that was tough. Maybe I am wrong, educate me. The mighty UCF Knights, The powerhouse UAB Blazers, Cal. What am I missing? Do people in Ohio and big ten county not have national games on direct tv, or do your rabit ears end at the Ohio river. Oh wait I forgot in 1992 they played a powerhouse University of Miami. I am talking recent history, not 30 years ago.
These have recenty been played or will be played soon. Texas (another series with Texas has been scheduled as well), Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami, Cal ( was a top program when scheduled), Virginia Tech, North Carolina, TCU, Oregon.
See my post above. Miami was last year and the year before and 2002 in the Championship game. Cal was a big program when it was scheduled, can't fault tOSU that Cal fell off.
