Just saw this so sorry if already mentioned. Wow. Link below. https://apple.news/A9HKWuyKZQ_-6aKNpEscUTw
The part of the story when the deer was called a catch of a lifetime, kinda made me cringe a little, the word harvest was not used but still.
It's an opinion that makes a lot of folks look at me funny, but the "golden years" of deer hunting are right now. There are more giant deer alive at this moment than at any previous time in history. I truly believe that. exhibit A-we now have a confirmed world record archery whitetail, a world record archery mule deer, and a world record set of sheds...all in the same year
I will say I'm not sure how I feel about accepting records from Saskatchewan, considering nonresidents are only allowed to hunt Mule Deer on Tribal land. Basically everything else is a gigantic sanctuary.
So... even years there are usually a group that head out to CO. While many go elk hunting, others do mule deer hunt. Then again there are others on the forum that head out west more frequently. If you want to hunt out west: plan/budget for it, get in shape, put it out there that you have interest.
Only real hunters can hunt out west. Real hunters stalk them mulies a couple miles at a time over several hours or even days. Many-a-time I have belly crawled a couple miles through mesquite and briars, cactus and locusts to sneak up on a mulie, pounced on it's back and forked it to death with a salad fork. If you can't do that then don't even try.
