Since I'm not really a Turkey hunter...enlighten me, what makes this a record? LBs, Beard, Spurs, Skull size....seriously...I don't know.

you get a point for each pound, then you take the beard length and multiply it by 2. Then add the length of both spurs and multiply by 10. I didn't even know you could score a turkey until I signed up for the contest

Bet a lot of "world records" don't get measured for this very reason! ;)

Years ago when Illinois still had turkey check stations, my dad checked in what at the time was the world record. I think it ended up getting broke twice that year.

    Congrats to Todd

Thanks very much guys for the congrats! Pretty much "bananas" is all I can say.

In-regard to measuring the thing, if you were in my position and had killed the potential world record and you were in my line of work - well, you'd have it measured too! I don't know anyone who wouldn't. It is a HUGE deal for our entire team and our sponsors whether we are hard-core turkey guys or not. Never expect / nor will this ever happen to me again. Heck, I don't even know of another world record hunt being caught on camera in the USA? If anyone knows I'd love to.

For the record, if I ever kill a whitetail that could be the new world record, I'd have it measured. Again, I think Mitch Rompola is the first person in history who didn't have a potential world record scored, and look how he was treated! I personally believe you owe it to the sport, the people who really have a passion for these animals, and for the good of the industry! For myself, I could care less, which is why I have never scored one of my animals before this. But in the world of whitetails, I've never really killed a "world class" buck. When you kill something that is the biggest of anything, it is my belief it really belongs to all the hunters out there and should be seen by as many people as possible. That's just my opinion of-course!

With that being said, I'm one lucky bird! I don't see it any-other way! I know I will catch some negative stuff for this; but that's part of my life in the hunting industry already. It comes with the territory, and you will not make everyone happy!

I just am very thankful and that's all I can be. Trying to be as respectful to the animal and sport as possible! That's my priority!

    Todder
