Sometimes you gotta give a little to get a little.
I strictly bow hunt on my land, and here in NC we all know everybody in our county, so when someones dogs run deer on your land you don't be ugly with the dog owner, and you darn sure don't go shooting a dog. But I gotta say sometimes it can be frustrating, the dogs have educated each other, and know where the deer are gonna be, which in our county is EVERYWHERE. I'm just hoping this year the dogs will find more deer on the farm they use across the swamp. But I will say this, the group of dog hunters are some of the nicest folks I've come across in the woods. They took my youngest on a dog hunt and stayed out until she bagged a nice doe. I also was given the opportunity to harvest a doe they ran into my food plot two years ago. I will never begrudge another hunter for trying to do the right thing in the woods, and so far I must say the folks here in our county that dog hunt are very respectful and polite. Did I mention the gallon of shine they dropped off when they came to pick up two dogs that my daughter found wandering around. In short we are all hunters working towards the same goal.

No way on earth I could stand someone letting their dogs run deer on my property. Not a fan of that at all. Being tolerant has its limits when you become the door mat.

I would give them one warning, then I would think about pulling the trigger

Different culture here in the Midwest, very protective of private property. I don't tolerate people much less their dogs on my property.

I don't understand the need to use dogs to hunt deer. I don't tolerate dogs. They get a pass the first time. After that they may never be seen again.

If it becomes a problem I would contact the local authority that handles dog situations. I don't like tresspassers, however I don't give out death sentences.

I hunt some in eastern NC where they dog deer...I'm just glad they don't do it here. Bear dogs are enough...

Unfortunately its not that simple here in NC. They changed the laws two years ago which make it a crime to kill a registered hunting dog on your property. They simply say the dogs can't read. With that being said all you can do is trap the dog and hold it until Fish and Game show up with the owner, otherwise you're stuck with a dog. Since the owner will be charged by the warden if he, or she is willing to show up for a fine to get the dog. So yeah it's a double edged sword, and can be a pain in the butt. But I try to work stuff out with them rather than be adversarial. I do totally agree with some of the above posts in some respects, if I had a hunter next door that was a total disrespectful A hole, and failed to follow laws I would be forced to take some other measures to reduce the threat on my land from his dogs.

A registered hunting dog? Is this some special tag the owner gets for the animal? If so, I doubt there is a lot of animals being registered. lol!

Dog hunting is not allowed in Wake County NC where I live and hunt. However, in the county where my second property is located, they can use them. What has always irked me is that guys that use dogs will turn them loose on other people's property when they think no one is around. You spend all Spring and Summer getting your "Honey Hole" just right for the upcoming season. I can't tell you the amount of times I have been in a tree for hours. Waiting for a deer to come in. I hear something trotting in. My heart begins to race and all of a sudden it is a Dang Dog. Let's just say that I have taken care of that situation on many occasions. No it is not the dog's fault, but the ones I have come across DO NOT REPECT PROPERTY LINES! I personally have never figured out the logic behind hunting deer with dogs. At least when we bow hunt, rifle, shot gun or muzzleloader, the deer have a chance of not being taken. When a deer is evading a predator that is hot on his tail, he has one thing on his mind and that is to lose him. It seems unfair that while a deer is running from one predator, it is ambushed by a waiting person with a gun. I am not going to call them "hunters". Where is the hunting in standing next to the road and waiting for the dogs to run a deer by you? Deer are short winded and run hard for a short period of time. I have been hunting and seen a deer turn to fight dogs after being ran for so long. At least a hunter has to try to figure out a deer's patterns and habits. Just my .02!

Although he has shown interest, I've been teaching my dog to not hunt deer.

So a deer dog must be registered? And if you catch a deer dog on your property and contact the warden the owner of the dog gets a trespass ticket or something if they come get it? I'm sure nobody registers their dogs, right?
My hat is off to you for putting up with it like you do and keeping a positive attitude.

Also in NC messing with a hunting dog while it is hunting, is messing up a hunt/hunter. And illegal.

For real? Even if the dog is trespassing? All because they cant read signs? They must be given a lot of rights, just like immigrants. We truly are becoming minorities.

I too give you props for seeing a positive side to it. Dogs are only used for treeing and coyote around here. A dog has a slim chance of surviving in the woods during rifle season. Ive heard of coon dogs getting shot for running deer.
