I rigged up a test stand for a few of my cams,My idea was to set them all up and put a set object up in front of the cams at 25 feet away from the cams and do some walk byes @ 5,10,15,25,35,40 feet at a normal pace also i did one walk buy at a fast walk @25 during the daylight The next test was at twilight when the ir would not light but the cam would fire so i could see if any of them would work at all,This is the tuffest time for most cams it seems and when the deer are most active. The next test was under darkness,I did some walk up test to see how far out the cams would trigger the ir lighting and many walk byes mostly at 25-40 foot to see what cam was best for certain setups. Also i have been working on a few models buy putting green tint over the ir lighting to tone them down because running the cam in video mode i was having some deer look at the cam and run off but i cant say it helped them much to not at all..but it was just a test like i said. I test the first batch and hope to get some more tested by the weekend,my idea is so other like yourselves might test your own and come up with your own conclusions on setting up your cams.even trigger speeds and distance the deer has to be from the cam for it to trigger. not to bash any cams here. The cams are as follows. Primos 46 primos X wgi x6c spypoint 6 moultrie m80 dlc covert 3.0 ltl acorn low glow ltl acorn black flash all cams were set on there highest sensitivity and all set for single pic. as you can see in the walkby pic I put a guitar on a stand at 25 feet from the cams and just walked by at a steady pace and by seeing how far i got before or after the guitar i would know how the trigger speed is for each cam,yes crude but effective for what i was doing. all the cams did very well i am glad to say... the next batch is the b list in wich most of them i leave at home any more. anyway i will keep adding to this as i look thew all this info i have here, It was kind of fun and i have leaned alot about the cams i am using here.
Looks like you went to alot of trouble doing that. Let us know your results. Trailcampro does a similar test. I will post a link so that you can look at and maybe get some further ideas on it. Once again, great test! http://www.trailcampro.com/2011falltrailcamerashootout.aspx Blessings.......Pastorjim
Good idea. We do something like that , but usually when we place them in the field. Better idea to do it beforehand. Here's another link to guys that do trailcam tests. Like them also. http://chasingame.com/
My cams..my dime. these cams i just pulled out of the woods are farm fresh. My testing on my cams is only to pit the cams i have against themselves. Reconyx cost too much $$ to hang in my woods,There are way to many thieves around here and i would end up on the news some day if i lost a cam for that much money.
