Okay, so the company I work for, has been periodically sending me letters asking me to sign up for direct deposit, or their own Visa Debit card thing... I didn't want to do the Visa thing, because I believe they charge you money to put YOUR check on it... (very un-cool).
I didn't do direct depost, because I like going to put my check in the bank, and going to pick up the necessities for the week ahead... (personal choice, right?)

No. No it's not. They took it upon themselves to enroll me in their Visa program. Charging me money to put it on the card.

Is this F'ed up or what?!?!

    Rant over.

Thats a bummer, I get direct deposit from all my employers and love it! I haven't been into a bank in 6 months!

I enjoy going to the bank as well. I've had jobs where direct deposit is how they do it, but have never been charged for it, so I went with the flow. If I were you, I'd be pissed.

Direct Deposit is the way most everyone is going these days. I worked for both the public school system and county government, and both required us to use direct deposit. Handing out a hard copy check is not even allowed. The county government for which I work has 3,000 employees and the school system even more. I could not even imagine both those systems being responsible for creating and delivering that amount of checks every two weeks. Bottom line, it costs money to create and deliver checks.

BUT, if the company for which you work has a policy that states that you MUST use direct deposit, then that is the way it is. I would look into my company's policy in regards to direct deposit. I have been using direct deposit for probably 10 years.

Okay, I just spoke with my HR person. It turns out the company went all green on me, and will not be sending out any more checks... not stupid, but ... stupid. As far as the card... I'm not charged for putting the check on the card. I'm only charged (normal) fees for using a Visa Debit card. Kinda like getting one of those gift cards... Okay. This wont be happening long. I sent my wife out to activate the card, and get a check made from our bank, so I can enroll in DD. Dam...

As far as going to the bank... I like going. They give me free suckers... lol. at least that's why my wife thinks I go... ;) right? lol kidding... I used to like taking my dog, to our old bank, because he knew they sent out treats for him. but I would mess with him, and give him the sucker... He'd get all mad. lol.

I'm pretty sure that they can't enroll you in that without your consent. Then charge you for it. It's like making you take out a 401k they just can't do it. IT"S YOUR MONEY. Talk to HR somethings wrong.

I like not having to worry about squat when it comes to my money. If I am owed a certain amount of money, it is automatically deposited. I can't think of anything easier. The closest bank of mine to me is about 10 miles. Heck, it saves me time and money to have direct deposit.

I love it too. I forget what cash even looks like, and the time it saves is very important to me.

If I never had to walk into a bank again, I'd be fine with that.

They gave us the direct deposit option.
I still get a check----I like going to the bank and cashing it . Guess it makes me feel like I actually get to have it in my hands for a while

I've not held a payroll check in my hand for over 6 years and I'm glad. I actually throw a fit if I have to go to the bank. I love direct deposit. I usually get my money two days before the other people who insist on holding a check in their hands. It's just one less errand I have to run.
