Any of you guys have wolves moving in on your neck of the woods? The wolves are starting to move into west central MN and I'm getting worried...

They are a cancer. Bullet biology is the best option.

    Shoot. Shovel. Shut up.

    I have a few :tu:

I wouldn't trade hunting in wolven woods for anything. I love having them around.

My wife was running the other day, came up over a crest and had 3 wolves running the road in the opposite direction. She and the wolves were all caught off guard and locked up at 20 yards. Wolves turned course and ran into the woods. She said it was awesome (except for the being out running part :) )

On a side note, I don't have to worry about CWD or EHD breakouts or other diseases promoted by over population. They also take care of keeping coyotes in check and we don't have feral dogs running the woods.

This basically illustrates my point. This is just in YNP...

What about prior history? Sure, populations are down from their record of the 90s. If you look further back into history, their population is at a much more sustainable level. I'd guess that it'll bottom out and rebound and the oversized packs thin out and stabilize in the 8-12K mark.

You guys are lucky really, I live and hunt in Northern Ontario were wolves and coyote out number deer, which makes the hunting tough. In addition I hunt in a zone where their protected and your not allowed to shoot them. But if it's legal shoot them, they kill tons of deer and worst the deer will leave the area. Also makes it impossible to patterns them because the wolves and coyote are always bugging them.

The deer will adapt. Pulled trail cam card today and had a deer feeding in a spot that wolves were less than an hour and a half earlier. A buddy of mine has watched a buck stay bedded (though watchful) as a pack walked within 30 yards of him. They weren't in killing mode and he knew it. 15 minutes later he calmly got up and walked off.

    Here's the trailcam pics:

I've seen three this week not as cool as it used to be. The ones I've had encounters with recently seem to have lost their fear of humans.
