His military training saved him? So without the training he could've never kicked a wolf, jumped back to avoid another wolf, then take a shot? This article was definitely spiced up a bit. Can't wait to see a cartoon rendition of the events in the next outdoor life magazine.
Have Wolves, coyote and Bear, I don't mess around with a pistol as I walk in or out. 12ga with 00. Having to aim is highly overrated.
Do we even know if this exaderated story is even real? " He round house kicked the first wolf in the face then did a double flip to avoid the 2nd one while shooting the 3rd one in the face then ate all 3 for dinner...and then he renewed his nra membership" Yeah whatever you say.
Nothing wrong with being a "wolf-hugger", I'm willing to bet that you have a better understanding of their lives than most. I too have been accused of being one as well because I refuse to buy into the lies and mistruths that get propagated by those who hate them. Of course, I also don't buy in to the "sunshine and roses" that the other side likes to spread. They simply are a pretty cool predator that deserves to have a place in our wild lands with the rest of nature.
Not a wolf story, but I shot a deer yesterday and recovered him 35 minutes later just shy of 400 yards (single lung) but bled like faucet. As I approached the deer coyotes ran off, they had ate both rear hams in less than 35 minutes. I went to get my knife and they had already been back when I got back to the deer. I salvaged what meat I could and before I left I could still see eyes in the distances. They are getting incredibly brave here.
You tend to agree with the population estimates by the gov't you have stated as much. You can't see wolves from the candian border to the central part of the state and have the number of wolves of 1500 that has been estimated.
Not sure where you're getting 1500? Last time we had this conversation I wasn't arguing more than 3500. Just a refresher:
was rereading this thread and it occurred to me that cougars have been feasting on joggers and bike riders in California ever since they stopped the hunting and those deaths have not had an impact on California's policy. So I would not expect losing a few people to wolves would change any policies or opinions. I believe reasonable hunting season and bag limits go a long way to removing the more aggressive animals, re-instill a fear of man, and help eliminate man and animal conflicts.
