Couldn't imagine what was going through his head! Probably had to check his shorts afterwards. I know I would have too!
Same in Illinois (shocker, I know). We don't have wolves or bears, but plenty of coyotes and meth-heads. I hunt Wisconsin too and always carry a 357
Why do I get a feeling that there was some embellishment to this story? I have no doubt he saw some wolves...and I'm sure he shot at one (or more). I have a hard time believing he was attacked though.
I know I posted this. But I can't say I disagree. It doesn't pass the sniff test does it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It reads like a script from a movie, sounds too good to be true. Maybe he is telling the truth, or what he believes the truth to be...but I personally have a hard time believing the story.
A young woman was out for a jog in Alaska a couple years ago and was attached and killed by wolves. Also a male college student in Canada was attacked and killed by wolves while out in the woods 5-10 years ago. Also a few years ago a teenage girl was hiking in a national park in Canada and was attacked and killed by coyotes. Last year a young male camper was attacked by a wolf while sleeping in a campground in Minnesota. If they're hungry enough you will be on their dinner menu. There are more stories from the old n days but can't be confirmed because they weren't "investigated" back in the day.
If there was any evidence that indicated his story was false they would have strung him up. Then again it was an NRA story.
I think this guy probably walked up on the pups, however I think the story may have been stretched a little... Maybe not but it seems like an action movie scene Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hahaha he's "In the market for a bigger gun" I don't think I would've waited for them to attack before shooting at them. I sure as hel would've had a round chambered.
I'm around wolves all the time in Northern WI. Most of the time they take off when you bump into them. The times I've had problems with them is on the way in to my stands in the morning. I'm a scent control freak so I feel like I've got VERY little human odor associated with me at that time. I walk slow and try to sound like a deer as I go to stand in morning, trying not to get sweated up and to not spook deer. I have had wolves close to me on quite a few occasions in these situations. Always a spooky situation. I'm sure if they attacked me it would be because they think I'm a deer. I wish they were not around. Not a big wolves fan. I'm sure people would rip me for being 'scent free' and 'walking like a deer' if I was ever attacked. Funny right cause I shouldn't be a good deer hunter if I don't want to get attacked by wolves. Should smell like human and make a lot of human noise in dark in the morning. SAD
Deal. FTR, I'd say their populations within MN are pretty close to the same. The big difference is that wolves are in 1/3 of the state; moose are in about a 10th of the state.
I will say that if I was going to carry (in the woods or CC), I sure as hell would have one in the chamber. *click-click* "Eat boot rubber wolf!" Me? I can hardly remember where I shot a deer with the excitement of the hunt. Story seemed a bit too detailed to me, but since I'm the resident "wolf-hugger" I didn't say anything...
