So, I was bored today and decided to walk out to my property and go look for sheds. It's early, but being laid off I am sick of sitting at home watching every hunting video I can find. After walking around for quite some time I found this track. Now, most people may think this is a dog or something, but I know better than that. Usually, I see deer out and about, but today something was different. There were no animals at all. No squirrels, birds, or deer. Absolutely nothing. Which seemed very strange to me. I took this picture with my phone as it was the best track that I found that was clearly frozen in the snow. I wonder if this is why the woods was so quite. Interested to get some input on this. This is in Southern Wisconsin.

Doesn't look like a coyote to me. Could be wolf or a dog.

I say coyote. I think the pad would be bigger on a wolf. Once in a while I get a wolf up here that walks the creek. A few years back I had a bull moose walk through my yard. Now that was a real surprise considering we don't have moose in my area, but I guess we will have a couple because a neighbor saw a cow also.

If it was a wolf you would not be guessing, their footprint is noticeably bigger than a dog.

There is absolutely no way to tell without a size reference like stated previously

Your hand in the pic for size reference would really help.

Here's set of wolf tracks for comparison...

    25 April 2012 (68)aa.jpg

And another set of wolf tracks next to a small bear track

    Chasse ours Mai 2012 (14)aa.jpg

Just for size reference, wolf tracks will be bigger than a German Sheppard tracks...

Yours looks to be from a fox, but hard to tell for sure with nothing to compare the size with.

It's hard without a reference but I would guess coyote just cuz there are more of them but southern WI is a possibility for wolves

No way to tell from that picture alone. Also, the woods do not "shut down" because a wolf walks by.

Even a small wolf print is the size of my palm.

Those dont look like coyote tracks.

My 115+lb German Shepherd makes tracks like those...

I'd say wolf or large dog.
