Healthcare is not issue when we're young for most. Like most my age it's not a high cost for me. Looking forward around age 65 most of us will need it and it can bankrupt any of us. It's about looking ahead.
Obama just created a huge sweeping new tax. During the debate on this, he stated that this is not a new tax. The SCOTUS now says it’s a tax. The tax code will now be used to modify behavior. Its not hard to see other ways behavior modification can be enacted via a tax. Perhaps congress can mandate you buy an electric car or pay a tax as a penalty for non-compliance. The curly fry light bulbs……………………. Yup, you will be mandated to buy and use them or pay a tax. This falls on the American public to vote this fall to install people that will repeal this new tax. I think this ruling will be very motivating to conservatives who will want to ensure conservatives control the presidency, house and senate.
Will the "illegal immagrants" be held to the mandate or will we continue to give them free health care? Shoobee, you want to field this question?
HLN addressed that, and their answer is that we do not know. Obviously the illegals do not pay taxes or file returns. So they can easily evade this tax.
You are correct, Crabtree. But this won't affect you right away, until overall insurance costs go up. Your income is way too high for you to risk going insurance-less under Obama-care. Obama-care is mostly a tax on the poor, for now. I am surprised that the RNC is against it then. The RNC usually likes taxing the poor.
Come again? Please take a few minutes and read and watch this. We are handing out billions to them in tax returns each year. http://www.wthr.com/story/17798210/tax-loophole-costs-billions
Romney's speech was as expected. He promised he would repeal Obama-care if elected. Of course he can't do this unless the RNC gets controll of 60 or more of the Senate seats. He failed to mention that. He does not care if his Senate buddies get elected or not. He only cares if he himself gets elected. Just looking out for #1.
Can you summarize your citation in one or two sentences so that I don't *need* to read it? I generally avoid invitations like "read this book and you will be saved ... ."
Sure don't want to waste your time. It's an investigation of how we gave over 4 billion in tax returns to illegal immigrants last year. Nothing really to do with health care, but just trying to make a point that I'm almost positive that the current administration will not hold these free loaders to the mandate.
I am afraid I cannot see how illegals who do not file tax returns can get either tax refunds (presumably you are talking about the earned income credit) or pay the Obama-care tax penalty. Illegals who are filing tax returns must have somehow gotten a social security card. That is a horse of a different color.
Ok thanks Bruce. Apparently the abuse arises through the TIN system. The TIN system is corrupted, yes. It was created for foreign workers legally in the USA to prove they have dependents so they can document their exemption deductions. But apparently the Mexicans have figured out a way to convert TINs into tax refunds. Amazing. So starting in 2014, the $1000 child care refund will be reduced by the $650 minimum Obama-care penalty for illegals receiving it. So this is actually an unexpected benefit from Obama-care related to illegals who are already circumventing the INS requirements. It is still unclear however how illegals will benefit from Obama-care or whether it will cover them. According to HLN the law is designed for citizens and legal residents.
Yes, that's a good joke. CNN and HLN are interviewing all the experts now, Demo's, Reep's, physicians, etc. Basically most agree that this is simply another mandated participation, very similar to social security and medicare. The rest of the debate is mostly just political posturing during an election year. Bachman as usual looks like a moron when she says this is the first time ever this has happened. It is simply not true. Romney is promising to repeal it, and that's not possible either, unless he can come up with a way to win 60 Senate seats as well. Otherwise Bachman's bill will be DOA the minute it arrives in the Senate. Obama is lucky Roberts voted for this, especially after Obama voted against Roberts during confirmation hearings. The election campaigns continue. Both sides are promising that which they cannot actually do. Nothing is new about that. Personally I would rather vote for Crabtree for US Pres however he does not want the pay cut.
And Europe is the model of productivity , Innovation, and financial stability,,,and our federal Gov't is both the model of fiscal responsibility and efficiency! And 'everybody' also thinks their food comes from a grocery store... /sarcasm off Rhetorical questions: *Why is health care cost high/as high as it is? *If you want to start a business or expand a small business what might the impact of this mandate be to your ability and plans to expand? *The ruling was upheld, not on the basis of good or not, but rather under the taxing authority of the Govt...so what do you think happens next? Hint, today 8-12% is the bogey for cost of healthcare offered through employers as a % of pay. Hint 2 participation rate is roughly 65-68% over the last several years.
Just goes to show you cannot always predict how a justice will vote. Actually I'm proud of Roberts for voting his conscience, no matter what his conscience says. Before, when Roberts voted for Bush instead of Gore, I figured Roberts was bought and paid for. Apparently not now, however.
