I pulled my camera chips this morning and I still have bucks in full velvet. I have never seen that in Wisconsin this late in the year. I was always under the assumption that you could not shoot a velvet buck in Wisconsin. I called the DNR this afternoon and was told you can in fact shoot a buck in velvet but you have to call a warden immediately and they will come and put a special tag on it. There is no charge for the tag but it must be tagged by a warden. I guess we learn something new every day.
Great to know. When I checked cams last weekend I also had pictures of bucks from about a week and a half ago with velvet on. Good luck getting your self a fuzzy monster :P
I've been hunting for 37 years and have never heard of anyone in Wisconsin shooting a buck in full velvet. Have you?
