Last I checked I am not the governer of WI and dont have veto power so yes this is just my opinion. I also think that harvesting a deer with a recurve is more of an accomplishment than a compound. I hear people on this site constantly getting upset that some gun hunter shot one of their target bucks and what shame it was that "their" deer was taken with a gun. Why? Because it is easier to shoot a deer with a gun. People also rip on monster bucks that were shot on high fence property. Why? Because it is easier. Crossbows are happening in WI whether I or anyone else likes and honestly since I hunt private property it probably wont affect me much at all, but too me shooting a deer with a crossbow wont have the same sense of accomplishment as shooting a deer with a recurve or compound. Once again, just my opinion. As far as I know that is still legal in this country.

My sentiments exactly! That list could go on and on and on. I've always got a kick out of the words "fair chase", I understand what it's supposed to mean but if anyone thinks for a second a human hunting an animal with a brain the size of a pear is fair they are kidding themselves.

I prefer and encourage the use of hammer, but to each his own

I hear ya. I think the number one thing I never have enough of and can definitely prevent me from being successful is time.

Something many against a crossbow fail to consider is the weight of a crossbow and the sound from a crossbow. Until you have tried to hold one up for any length of time waiting for that buck/doe to walk into position then you would understand how much of a disadvantage one can be. Sure you can use a shooting rail or shooting sticks to help support it but those help limit your effective coverage area. A pretty big disadvantage compared to what I am used to with my regular bow. The loud crack you get from most crossbows is more than enough to cause that deer to react. I have seen deer at ranges over 20 yards come unglued at the sound and even move enough to allow that bolt to harmlessly pass by. It does you no good to say how accurate a crossbow is out to 40-50 yards but if the deer isn't there when the bolt passes by. My son had a doe this year duck his bolt at 25 yards and my buddy wouldn't have believed it unless he saw it with his own eyes. Hardly this marked advantage so many speak of.

I'm pretty surprised that this thread hasn't gotten out of hand. Good job keeping it civil (more or less). Carry on gents....

IMPO, I don't use a X bow, from what i have seen it would be more aggravating using one then my Reg. Bow.

Like I mentioned, I hunt with both and ENJOY hunting with both. But, I have to agree with a previous comment about the sense of achievement, or lack there of when using a CB. Personally, I feel a much greater sense of accomplishment when I kill a deer, any deer, with my compound bow than with I do when using my CB.
Chuck, I've shot at deer with my CB and had them just stand there wondering what just took place (much like after a gun discharge), while the one I shot runs away. I don't believe the noise factor with a CB is much different than a compound bow. They are both disrupting the immediate area.
As far as deer "jumping the string", I've yet to have a problem with that shooting my CB. But, a deer that does do that is almost always a deer that is not at ease, or suspects something "isn't right". This isn't the time to take that shot. I've killed 19 out of the 21 deer I've shot at with my CB, I can't say that about my compound. Hmmmmm

I wish I could use that as an excuse this year but I can't. I've put in A LOT of time but just can't connect. Gonna hang in there until season ends in January.

Good luck Finch! Hope you get one of the bucks you're after. Have you passed many does or small bucks this season? Killed any does?

Doesn't Michigan have an "Any Weapon " deer season ?... Think I saw Uncle Ted walking out with a Compound and a Rifle during one of his Filmed Hunts....

On the game ranch he owns called Sunrise Acres it is just that, a game ranch where you can use anything you want. As for Michigan's gun season I believe you can have both weapons with you, just some zones you cannot use a rifle. Will have to look to double check though.
