Not at all. We all make mistakes. We gotta then be accountable for them.

it'd be a real bummer to only hunt in the winter... during muzzle season ... no rut ... no early season... no late season... just a 10 day window ... hmmmm.. Think I'd go for the crossbow .. able to hunt from sept -jan.... just sayin

Whatever floats a persons boat is what they should do. Xbows are not my thing and never will be. I absolutely love bow hunting but for me a xbow is not bow enough.

Not a fan of the new cross bow laws.... I can see it being a plus to open it up to ladies or kids but not everyone. Wisconsin deer are already under a ton of pressure in comparison to most states.... I hope I draw a Iowa tag soon!

Its not for me but I think its good overall for hunting. Virginia has had it for a few years now. I think there are people that dont want to put the time into practicing or are intimidated by shooting a bow that hunt with Xbows. I guess Im saying it gets more people hunting that otherwise wouldn't hunt.

Is it easier to kill a deer with an Xbow? Yes I think so. Do I care if someone wants to use an Xbow because its easy? No, not at all. I don't want the traditional guys giving me crap for my 80% let off bow either. I guess Im saying I like the level of challenge the compound gives me. I might pick up a recurve on day though.

Crossbows are legal here in British Columbia and I've done limited hunting with them, I personally prefer a compound bow over the crossbow or even gun hunting. Honestly more variety is not a bad thing, I haven't seen any evidence of it effecting my chances of hunting.

Why the hell would anyone care what someone else uses to legally kill a deer??

Stick and string guys whine when a compound is used and compound guys whine when a shotgun is used and shotgun guys whine when a rifle is used and so on and so on and so on.

Every bit of it is stupid. The ONLY way someone should be pissed and express such negativity is if you are being FORCED to follow someone else's idea of what hunting you should enjoy. NONE of the above people are being forced to change the way they hunt to satisfy others.

I wonder how many guys that whine about crossbows are OK with forcing AR's on everyone else.

Funny how they only cry when THEY feel slighted.

I hope NY legalizes crossbows for all seasons. My father has been a loyal hunter and supporter of NY conservation for over 40 years and he is unable to archery hunt because he had neck surgery that keeps him from being able to draw and hold a compound. This is beyond ridiculous..........a dedicated hunter being forced to sit out an entire season because he's not handicapped "enough"???

I took a short walk a couple days ago during ML and kicked up 17 does and 2 small bucks in about 1/10 of our total land covered...........yet my dad is forced to sit out part of the year??

There are countless bigger fish to fry before I will listen to someone cry about crossbow use and even begin to care.

Why are so many deer hunters so arrogant that they self gloss their own accomplishments as somehow better then others because of what they use as a weapon???

You know what "harder" to kill a deer gets you???.......countless wounded and not recovered dead deer because of poor shot execution. That's not a good thing. The hardest part of hunting is getting the deer in position for a lethal shot. Once that is done the act of killing it should be as quick and humane as possible...........not a challenge or crap shoot.

You beat the deer's senses and went undetected in range of your weapon?? So be it, game over IMO and that deer gets harvested should you wish. You did your job. What good does it do anyone to shoot it in the hind quarters and watch it limp off to die and rot under a pine tree 2 miles away???

I want people to be as LETHAL as possible once they get to shoot. More wounded deer is not something I am willing to justify because of a few judgmental voices in the crowd.

I think Gore Tex makes deer hunting too "easy"

    So does...........

    Baiting
    Food plots
    Corn fields
    Oak trees
    Apple trees
300+ fps compounds you can hold all day
Broadheads that cut fist sized holes in deer due to the above
Scent free sprays, washes, wafers, and deodorants
    Tree stands
    Climbing tree stands
    Blinds
    Hand Warmers
A thermos full of hot coffee
    Grunt tubes
    Bleat cans
    Rattling antlers
    Binoculars
    Scopes
    Gunpowder
    Rifled barrels
    Heater Body Suits
    Ozonics
    Carbon arrows
    Mechanical releases
    Bow hangers
    Back packs
    Hand saws
    Deer search dogs

There is no such thing as "fair chase" people. We have EVERY advantage possible over the deer due to technology and brain power.

    Never going to change.

Go hunting, preferably with your dad, brothers, sons, and friends and enjoy each and every moment you all share because time flies by and time is too short to waste worrying how someone you'll never know legally killed his deer.

I don't have a problem with crossbows and I don't have a problem with women, kids, anyone over 60 or someone with a handicap using a crossbow during bow season. My dad has a shoulder problem and has been hunting with one for years. We have a lot of great memories together because of it. We mainly hunt crowded public land and my fear is it will only get worse with crossbows. I would rather see them have their own season. Not as long as bow season.

I admire successful hunters using a longbow or recurve more than successful compound bowhunters(which would include me). I admire successful compound bowhunters more than successful crossbow hunters unless they are handicapped.

I've asked myself this question: Would I be better off if crossbows were legal the full archery season for everyone in my state? My answer is no. I suppose that makes me selfish.

I've read many opinions here basically stating that crossbows are not any more effective and/or are restrictive in use, so a question I have is, if this is true then why even use a crossbow?

Another opinion contradicts the above. Some have stated their kids or wives could hunt by using a crossbow, so by using this opinion a crossbow must be easier.

    Which is it?

Yes they are physically easier to use.
But they are not that much more effective.
You still have to do all the things a bow hunter does in regards to your scouting ,set up , entry, exit, scent control.

And since you specifically asked if "I" would be better off, yes that makes you selfish by your own admission.

Pretty sure every legal hunter has to pay for a tag same as you.

Its not like these things are laser guided.

If it is about getting more people into the woods than why not make hunting just one season and do away with segregated seasons. We can have just one long hunting season. You can use a rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, compound, crossbow, traditional bow. Whatever you want, as long as it gets more people in the woods, right? What do I care what someone chooses to hunt with.

While this is all true, the BIG difference is still the fact that you don't have to draw the bow at the most crucial time, when a deer is 20yrds from you! This is what get's many hunters busted. I hunt with both compound and crossbow, so I really have no dog in this fight. Just stating a fact.
