No problem with the use of crossbows. The people that hunt with a rifle will continue to hunt with a rifle for the most part. I agree with Greg when it comes to the laziness part. Crossbows are not something you can pick up and kill something instantly with. But that's how some of these people think. I know of a couple that actually told me they're too lazy to hunt with a regular bow. They take a few shots then claim to be ready for the season. The crossbows are not the problem but they bring out the lazy, unprepared hunters. Thus increasing the lost deer. I also understand that you can say this about some regular bowhunters. Not saying this is every crossbow hunter, just the ones I have came in contact with.
After reading this I have actually LOL! They have been legal here in TN for a while now. Not seen anything different. What I did find in some comments was...how it was cheating. Now I have only been Bow hunting 20 years, not near as long as some one here. One thing I can tell you is....its much easier hunting with a bow now than it was 20 years ago. The bows now days are SO MUCH better, faster, and easier to use than they even were 20 years ago. The advancements is unreal..made it much easier to kill with a bow now. I'm just glad more people might get out and enjoy the woods and sit on the couch. One thing you all will see....like said before. Their will be a LOT that will go buy a Xbow thinking its easier...which they will find out it isn't and then sale it. Seen that a lot here. I think it would be more aggravating to hunt with one myself. Lugging that big thing around...not for me. Much easier to use my PSE.
The dates should concur with the gun season only. No reason the "real archers" should have to compete with these clowns. IMHO Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have personally seen more injured deer and poor placement shots due to crossbows here in Michigan. I work in a pro shop and the things I've heard this year from people just make me a tad angry sometimes but it's apart of life. First a guy told me he wanted a crossbow because there was less practice involved, Another told me he shoots a crossbow because you can get bigger mechanical broadheads for a crossbow over a compound and that he needed all the help he could get because he wasn't a good shot. Personally I wish it was back to the rule of being at least 55 or you had to have a doctors note to use one.
You must also have the magic powers to know where exactly the deer are goin to be for the shot. How is grabbing your bow getting situated and drawing a compound bow involve any more or less movement then doing the same with a crossbow. Its the same you wait for the opportunity to move into position to present itself and do it. If your struggling around that much to draw you bow maybe you outta lower the poundage or hit the gym.
Legalizing crossbows is an awful idea for any state! Our archery only zones in Connecticut were once filled with very few bow hunters most of which were very respectful and knowledgeable. Now that crossbows have been introduced in 2013 there is a shift. People go on down to Cabela's pick up a crossbow and since they require very little skill, now believe they have a rifle/shotgun in their hands. These same people now find these bow only zones and walk through them with a crossbow in there hands thinking they are doing a deer drive with a rifle. Thus not only having a false idea of how accurate/fast there weapon is, they are also ruining a lot of peoples hard work they have put in all season. I have seen this first hand and it sucks. Having a great little piece of land people seldom frequent to having a man walk through with a bright orange jacket armed with a crossbow and one hour of shooting light left parking as close as he can to the spot and walking right through bedding area with no care in the world. I do not have a problem with crossbows, however I do have a problem with the majority of the people who use them to shortcut taking time to learn archery and thinking they now have their gun season extended.
I used to be against crossbows, now that I've put my personal ego and greed aside, I'm totally fine with legalizing them. I don't believe much will change.
I like it….I won't use one…but it'll be a great way to introduce my daughter to bowhunting in 2 years when she can hunt!
I grew up totally outside the hunting world. Nobody in my family ever hunted anything, ever. However, every year in the fall I would hear all these guys at church talking about deer. When I turned 35 I decided to try deer hunting as a hobby. My wife bought me a crossbow that year as a present. There is so much to love about deer hunting... I just love being in the woods as the sun rises and the woods come alive, and conversely when the sun sets and deer 30 arrives. I can't tell you the hours, time, money, practice, hunting shows watched, etc that I have put in. This year I was drawn for a quota hunt on a WMA. I looked at topo maps, walked and scouted miles, sat in the middle of tall grass and was almost carried off by giant mosquitos... all to shot an 8 point buck at 20 yards with my crossbow. Three years of learning to hunt had paid off... never once have I felt like I was cheating or doing something wrong.
This sight has been leghumping crossbows for quite sometime. I think a lot of it is financially motivated. I might use a crossbow someday. That would be the day I grow a vagina.
All For IT !! those of you that are young and can pull back 70+ lbs and have 20/20 eyesight... fear not .. You will also reach the age of muscle loss, and failing eyesight... IF the only saving grace you have is a crossbow... will you give up hunting?
Did not know shooting a compound nullified my right to have an opinion. By the way, still practicing with my recurve
I'll buy a muzzleloader if I have to give up bow hunting due to physical disabilities of age. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
