They are different enough that when I tell someone about a deer I killed, I'll mention specifically what I was hunting with. In other words, if I shot a deer with my CB I wouldn't say I got it with my "bow". They're that much different.

Reality is there are a lot of people who agree with "my" definition. At the sametime there is a lot of people and a lit big money lobbying from the industry trying to force "their" definition down our throats.

There is video of a seven year old on this website shooting a deer with a crossbow. No doubt their parent cocked the bow in order to for them too shoot it. Hand that 7 seven year old a compound or recurve and see how far they get.
Now that is not limited it children, how many crossbows have to be cocked with a hand crank or even a battery crank in order for the person "load" the weapon...more then you will admit.
Sitting in woods with a loaded cross bow is utilized more like a gun then a bow.
They have a place in the woods, but not during our archery season for able bodied individuals.

Preacher Tony, how so? Are you saying that crossbows are not preloaded and drawn until the animal arrives and then they are shot off hand?

Crossbows have been known by many names over the years. Originally ballista. Some areas called qastraphetes and some areas arbalasts. Crossbow is a recent name given to them so I would say the changes over time have caused some confusion.

I don't really care either way. But I do agree that they are different. For example, if I am watching a hunting show and they are using a crossbow I turn the channel. But hey, I guess since Willie Robertson shoots a crossbow they must be awesome! Right?

Wow, can't defend your remark so you resort to something meaningless.

I just don't get it. Why do these guys not understand that a bow and a crossbow are exactly the same. Why does a doctor have to sign for an antibiotic when I can buy aspirin over the counter? They are the same thing they are pills. I don't get it? Why do I have to be 21 to buy a beer when I can go buy a pepsi at 6? They are just drinks they are the same thing. I don't understand people. Why if I can drive a truck do I need a different license to drive a semi truck? WTH? I mean really they have four wheels and a steering wheel. Really dude the worst one is smoking. Some places I travel they will let me smoke mary jane and other places only cigs? I don't get it? I am just puffing smoke. Why can't everyone agree on this stuff?

I think the anti bow crowd is doing more whining lately.

PT - I have to go check cams. I will troll a little later.

I have read the thread and all I did was give corrected information. No trial season and what the last two season were. Also showed what a crossbow is.

I am not anti-crossbow if some of you are implying that. I am saying that it is just another weapon to hunt with and different than archery equipment. I don't care what you hunt with. It takes practice and skill even with todays compounds. The crossbow industry themselves have stated the crossbow is much easier to use. I enjoy practice and when I put in effort the reward is more sweet.

It seems the crossbow crowd is whining and living in an altered reality and denial.

Wrong! No where that I have read says a bow must be drawn and fired as the animal is present. A bow has limbs that store energy when the string is pulled back. It can also have wheels or cams.

I take the safety off as soon as I see a deer I want to kill. I don't wait until it's 20yrds from me. The details. it's all about the details.
