I agree with that... but you did spin it a little. On the second part... That is a debate all in itself. I am kind of leary of both but lean towards the Game & Fish numbers because there isn't another choice. Most here are weekend warriors for a couple weeks out of the year, have no idea what they are talking about and they are all about me. The perfect crossbow candidate for easy pickings through marketing and hype. Like I said in an earlier post I am on the fence yet. I really don't care if they make it legal or not here. My only concern is it might make access tougher in our state since we don't have big deer numbers to start with. I just found your post a little humorous . Tim
This thread reminds me of one of simans posts this year....an epic ready to hunt pose holding a crossbow and it said....haters gonna hate.....so true Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
This thread is like a broken record... Playing the same thing over, and over, and over. It will never end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
After 2nd gun season you're allowed to hunt with a crossbow for the remainder of archery season. I'll be out with mine next week trying to whack a couple does.
Seriously, what the heck does a grenade have to do with deer hunting? Oh, I know.....absolutely nothing. Really, if that is the best argument against crossbows anyone has, then why bother. There is no correlation to be made there.
It's not an "anti" issue for 95% of us. "Whoever" is not going to be called anti bow when he whacks his does because he is using a crossbow instead of a bow. There are some people who are "anti" crossbow, but very few. In Illinois I use a rifle for coyotes and if someone chooses to use a crossbow, do you think there will be backlash? No, the issue is about aligning seasons and determining if a crossbow is equal to a recurve/compound bow. I am not sure what I believe and think a lot of people feel this way and debating like this helps us learn. In Illinois if you are not 62 or disabled and go hunting with your crossbow on opening day of archery season you are going to jail. It is illegal. Maybe I missed it in this thread, but Wisconsin is just under a three year trial period, this is not a for sure thing. Many different states have many different laws and there is no right or wrong answer at this point. Lastly, please keep in mind when you are reading these threads in general that the posters are sometimes biased. Myself, I am not getting paid in the hunting industry and my opinions are mine. There are several people posting that depend on the hunting industry for pay checks and are told what to wear, use and what to hunt with.
Here is my final point on the subject: Have 3 separate seasons: Traditional, Compound, Crossbow ...all the same amount of time each (this would make compound season shorter) ... or Allow all three in one Archery season... If Choice #1 were implemented, all the self-righteous compound users would cry like a buncha bnabies...LOL ....justice, for sure and it would be worth it just to see it :D
I would like to see the traditional hunters have at least the first two or three weeks of the bow season to themselves. No one works harder to kill a deer more than them. I would also like to know why Illinois created a seperate season for crossbows? Why doesn't Illinois feel they are the same? Why did Wisconsin grant only a trial period, why don't they feel they are equal?
I read that there will be an archery tag and a xbow tag. You can only hunt with the weapon for that tag. You will be able to buy the other tag "at a substantially reduced price" once you have purchased either tag. I have not heard if that allows a hunter to take an "extra" deer or not. Has anyone?
My understanding is no. You will only be able to shoot the same amount of deer non weapon specific. To clarify, you won't be able to shoot a archery buck with both a crossbow and Compound. It will be one or the other.
First off, this is not a trial period. There is no sunset on this, only gathering data for three years. Second, in 2012 the law was changed to a lesser weapon law. Meaning that anyone could use a crossbow in gun deer, bear, muzzleloader and turkey season. This new law just adds archery season. Why wasn't the lesser weapon law in 2012-2013 good enough? I feel a crossbow is only another tool for hunting but it is not archery equipment anymore than it is a gun. Totally different. A bow has to be drawn and held steady without a deer detecting the hunter. Crossbow, preloaded, cocked and shot off a shelf.
