The only argument you will ever need with someone arguing against the use of crossbows. Recurve vs compound
Because in IL, its not legal for him until the Monday after the second firearm season. This year, that was December 9th.
It honestly probably wont affect me at all since I hunt private property. I just feel that it is not the same accomplishment as getting a deer with compound or recurve. I also think that shooting a deer with a compound isnt the same accomplishment as it is with a recurve (I use a compound). Ironically I almost bought a crossbow from dad last Christmas. I didnt because he wasnt going to be around enough to use it. I am all for people that are handicaped or over the age of 65 being able to use a crossbow. I am even fine with loosening up the restrictions so that someone that has a good reason why they need use one can. I am not the fear monger that Justin is trying to make me out to be just because I dont agree with his point of view.
Legally I can't hunt with a crossbow in Illinois prior to the 2nd part of our firearms season. After that it's fair game until the end of the year. I will still continue to hunt with my Chill 80% of the time but will take the crossbow out a few times simply because I'd like to shoot something with it. I do prefer to hunt with the compound which will be my weapon of choice so long as I'm able to pull it back, however that doesn't mean I won't whack a couple with the "crossgun" when given the opportunity. And I don't expect everyone to agree with my point of view. We all put stock in our own opinions and that's what makes this world great. However it's hard to argue with the cold hard facts which illustrate very clearly that allowing crossbows during regular archery season has little to no impact on harvest numbers or harvest quality. That's not fear mongering - that's reality.
I respect your POV. I just don't understand how someone can justify using a compound over a recurve is any better than using a crossbow over a compound. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why would you be concerned what someone else considers an accomplishment? I don't considered hunting a competition. Putting meat in the freezer and just getting out in the woods is enough for me.
I live and hunt in NY. We were shotgun only for most of my hunting life.........still are in some areas. When the idea of rifle use was brought up the sky is falling crowd went crazy. Claims of more wounded deer, guys shooting 500-1,000 yards across open fields and bullets traveling a mile and killing someone's child taking a bath. Biggest cry of all was a skyrocket in hunter death and injury. Rifles were allowed and none of the scare tactics happened. I now own and hunt with a 270, 30 '06, 30-30, 7MM Mag and 7MM 08.........all purchased in state and topped with high end optics, I also started home loading ammo. We have maybe the most stubborn orange army in the country and it didn't hurt them one bit. Crossbows will be in every state soon enough and the results will be similar........whole lot of yelling over nothing.
both Hand grenades and RPG's use gunpowder as a propellant.... Crossbows and Compounds have strings and pullies ....
It just keeps going and going and going. It will be interesting to revisit this thread in 5 years to see the same peoples opinion.
Great post... it would have been weighted completely opposite 5 years ago... I was against them... cuz I believed the hype
You know, I really don't have much of an oppinion at all on this. What other people choose to do that doesn't have any affect on me.I don't care. I wise man once told me: "don't try and force your values on someone else."
I guess it wont affect me as a hunter to be honest, I like the idea of the record book thing. Admittedly my opinion may have been a tad strong. I will try and stay positive. Tony I am sorry I reacted to you the way I did or anyone else That I may have offended[. I got invited to pikes county IL to do some archery hunting with a friend of mine down there. He uses a cross bow because of a physical limitation. This will be my first time to hunt IL. Justin you do have a good sight here and I apologize in advance for any deer I may shoot down there in your state with my bow .
I wonder if the archery harvest will go up next year that's what I'm interested in Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
