I'm a little late in posting this but some how I was able to pull it off again in the turkey woods. Last Thursday May 5 I headed out to one of my local spots bright and early.
Typically I'll hear birds gobbling from the roost in this location, but it was dead quiet. I called a couple times and nothing close was vocal at all. I had my doubts but about 25 min into my hunt two jakes broke through the timber at 40 yards. The lead bird made a b-line to my decoys. He meandered around for a couple seconds kind of semi strutted out then quartered toward me at 13 yards.
At this point I couldn't let the new Halon sit idle any longer. I steadied the camera on him, as I was self filming, drew back and sent one.
The NAP spitfire left an entry hole the size of a baseball and the bird flapped about 10 yards away until it expired.
It's been a great year in the turkey woods for our family. 3 for 3 and less then 3 hours in the blind. I'll take those stats any year! Stay safe, hunt smart, and make it count!
