Living and hunting whitetails in Illinois most of my life, I have long thought about hunting for bear in Wisconsin. Just looking for some general advice about how to go about it. As a dedicated DIY bowhunter, I'm wondering, is it feasible to hunt bears on public land in northern or central Wisconsin without bait or dogs? Is there room to spot and stalk, or possibly set up a stand on trails or beside a stream? I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I have yet to hunt WI bear because I dont want to wait for enough points so i hunt bear in Ontario. However several of my friends and colleagues have been through the WI bear hunt. Every one of them has hunted over a bait site and prefer to hunt on the years when bait hunts go first and dog hunters go second. Seems like alot of work with the baiting and checking sites but not really much more than prepping for deer hunting. Mostly just depends on how much time you can dedicate to the prep work!
