The problem with the ban is that it is impacting areas that have never seen CWD in wild deer. Less than 1/2 of the counties where baiting is now illegal because of the law actually have had an animal test positive.

When I look at the WI map and where CWD is and where it is not, what I see is land where deer are forced to congregate closer not because of somebody baiting, but because they have less unbroken forest land roam. I see far more deer closer together in farm field and foot plots then ever at the small baiting areas that are now illegal upnorth.

I guess my take on it is that it should not be legislated or mandated by the state government. The conservation department should have the final say in if, when and where a baiting ban should take place. I don't like it when politics mixes with science.

Gotta LOL at Durkin. He even cited the junk science about the monkeys. :lmao2: :lmao2: :lmao2:

Once again he cements is status as somebody hunters should not take seriously.

His tired and tedious mantra is clear

    he hates the Republican Governor

    he hates Republicans

    he does not understand CWD

Durkin does do a good job of investigative reporting, guy can gather facts so well certain internet posters take down their manifesto because the truth was exposed by his efforts.

What durkin refuses to admit (and if he were intellectually honest he would but that would mean he would have to give up on using his stories to espouse his hatred for Republicans.) is that baiting is NOT a vector in eliminating or stopping or even slowing the spread of CWD. There is a thread here that covers this and a few of the posts in that thread explain the matter pretty well.

    https://forums.bowhunting.com/threads/cwd-the-future-of-deer-hunting.89434/

while durkin pretends he cares about congregating deer he never has a negative word to say about the whitetail hunters that grow bait in the same spot year after year to attract them to the same spots over and over with the deer feed they grow. If he wants to pretend he is outraged by hunters using feed to congregate deer to infect the soil and the plants that up-take the infectious prions you would think he would apply that to all hunters supplying feed to congregate deer.

Some things you will never read in a durkin story about CWD

    1. In WI counties where CWD has been detected, baiting has already been banned for 15 years and the ban has had no impact on eliminating CWD.

    2. In WI counties where baiting is still practiced, CWD has not been detected.

    3. From CWD standpoint, Hunters supplying deer feed that they grow for deer in the same spot every year is just as bad as feed that hunters pour on the ground.

Durkin knows (but will never put in writing) that if baiting were banned state wide in WI, it will have no impact on CWD but if he were to be intellectually honest about hunter supplied deer feed he would lose one of the reasons to write negative stuff about Wisconsin’s Republican Governor and Republican lawmakers. Typical uber Liberal.

Settle down. No need for you to get so worked up over this. At no time did I "claim to know what Durkin knows or thinks." I posted:

durkin has a long and documented history of being an anti Walker, anti Republican liberal that only uses CWD as a vehicle to bash Republicans.

Not worked up at all, reread the 2nd to the last paragraph of your post. Starts with Durkin knows...

My point is as far left Durkin is you as far right. Intolerant of another perspective.

If I shoot a deer out of a two acre plot of clover that was planted to attract deer, and I use a compound bow, am I still a bow hunter?

Would I be welcomed at the World's Best and Most Excellent Professional Bow Hunters Strokin' Extravaganza?

Sure. The bait you hunted over does not define the sport. If you used a human powered bow drawn and held at the time of the attempt on game in which the draw cycle was one consistent motion and the draw was not held in a locked position, then you are a bowhunter.

Never heard of them but it sounds like you would be. I know PBS and P&Y welcomes all human powered bowhunters.

My 75 year old father in law uses his super human powers to cock his crossbow that he uses to harvest deer during our state's bow season. He is a bowhunter too. He's pretty cool.

Glad to see your state allows the elderly and handicapped to use a crossbow while bowhunting is taking place. I think that's fair to allow crossbowing for that user group.

FYI, we have a birthday gift to give to my gramps for his 82nd. We spent last setting it up and making bolts and targets and sighting it in. This weekend we are giving him:

    Killer Instinct 350
    Dozen Bolts (and discharge bolt)
    Bag Target
    Discharge target
    Rope Cocker
    Crank cocker
    Bolt puller
    10 pack Slick Trick broadheads
and we are going to make him a washed sand broadhead bunker for shooting broadheads into

He really enjoys crossbow hunting and was using a 25 year old Horton so we thought it time to upgrade him.
