I'm looking at getting wireless camera any information on them would help. Is there a difference between Wi-Fi camera and cellular? I've looked at spypoint and Bushnell where u pay for a monthly service. I don't want to have a bunch of picture's texted to my phone where it uses up my storage on my phone.
We have 11 Covert Code Blacks. The pictures are posted to an App on your phone. The cost is $35/3 months for each camera. Overall their setup is fine and functional enough. The cameras themselves are good trail cameras but in Cell cam mode they can sometimes miss a lot. I don’t know why but the detection circuit seems to be somewhat compromised sometimes when in Cell cam mode. They just aren’t going to get all the pictures that they or any other quality camera would get in normal trail cam mode. I have hunted too many times over one of them and been amazed at what they missed. They will sometimes completely fail to capture a visit from a particular animal. You just have to realize that you are only getting part of the info and learn how to extrapolate that into what you are looking for. In other words you can use them to tell you when you had definitely better be there but you can’t take an absence of photos as indication that you should not. In general I already know the detection circuit is the weak point of Covert trail cameras and the cell cams are no exception. I’m guessing that there might be a better performing Cell camera out there other than the $1100 Reconyx but I don’t know. We also have a Reconyx Cell cam and although I don’t care for the way it sends the pictures via email I do realize that it is working pretty flawlessly... but then who can afford $1100 Cell cameras? I can only tell you what I know about and that is the Coverts. I plan to try a new brand myself next season so hopefully you dredge up a good recommendation that we can both use. The Covert Cell cameras can help you kill a big deer as they have for us but is there something better?... I say probably so.
I use a Covert Blackhawk, I think it is $14.99 for 1000/pics. They use Verizon in my area and it is sent just like an sms text. My phone doesn't store the photo unless I save it. Setup is a little difficult but once you set it up once you'll be a pro. Battery life all depends on how many photos are being taken. I had mine out for three months before it died. Your best bet is buying one off Ebay because they can get pricey!
Spartan cams are great. Had two Covert code blacks and had nothing but trouble with them. The newer models may be better. I only pay 5 bucks a month to add the cam to my Verizon plan. I now have three Spartan GoCam's. Two are 3g and the other is 4g. I do also pay 3 bucks a month to Spartan for premium service. That way I have total control of them. The 4g will send me videos on request. If I see an interesting picture I just send a video request and can view a video of what happened after the picture. The app on my phone works great. If you want some good info go to chasingame.com forums and look at the cellular forum. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I have two different cams, a Stealth Cam GXW and a Spypoint Link S. Both cameras have their strong points and weak points. Overall I favor the Stealth Cam. It's daytime pics are better and the detection circuit seems to be better. I had to send the first Spypoint back because it quit working and they got another one out to me pretty quick but getting a hold of Spypoint is nearly impossible. The second camera has worked flawlessly though. The fact that the Spypoint was much more expensive than the Stealth Cam would make me buy the Stealth Cam all day over the Spypoint. The Stealth Cam has been a little harder on battery life but I think I'm going to get an external battery for it. Even with buying an external battery for it, it would still be less than the Spypoint. One big positive for the Spypoint is the built in solar panel. It does work and will extend battery life. Hope this helps. Blessings..........Pastorjim Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
