My Netgear wireless router just stopped working, no power in the unit. I need a new one that won't break the bank (it's Christmas and I went overboard on my kids). The netgear served me well, but I only got about 2 years service out of it and the range I felt was a little short. I've got a 2000 sq ft home and we use our work laptops, home, ipod touches, etc to access the net from different rooms. Sale me one. For you techies, tell me what I need and what I don't need.
All I use at home and at work is Linksys/Cisco. These are common just about everywhere these days. You will want to go with the wireless-N This one is only $40 and would probably serve your needs very well http://www.walmart.com/ip/Linksys-Wireless-N-Router-WRT120N/12538152 This one is a little more at $60, but has some built in parental controls if you need that http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cisco-Expert-E1000-Ultra-Wireless-N-Router/14066653 You may also want to look for one with a USB port on it for a central backup, but those will probably run closer to $100. Hope this helps!
thank you stunt, the walmart one is what I'm leaning towards. I'm more concerned with range than anything. I've finally got my building finished and alot time is spent out there. I'd like to be able to surf the web while I'm watching TV etc, out there.
Most routers these days have very good range, especially through drywall. Concrete may be another story. You should have zero trouble covering your house, so you could always place the router in the room that is closest to your other building. I still don't think it will be a problem, I can see all kinds of wireless networks in my neighborhood. Some of them are more than a block away.
