Another two days off school again... Ice accumulation here was minimal. I just drove my wife to work, and the roads were pretty decent, so I guess we got lucky.

We got clobbered here. No power since 5pm yesterday. Roads are impassable. Kendall spent more than two hours trying to drive the 20 miles home and couldn't make it. The +50 mph gust blew in a window in the basement. I noticed fairly soon but by time I could get it back in, there was 4" of snow all over. Then when I checked on my chicken. The poor things were buried in snow. (Inside the coop!). I dug them out and put them in the garage. It was so bad out I couldn't breathe in the wind and I seriously could not see the house from the chiken coop even tho it was less than 50 ft away.

Holy crap! That's insane Christine. Glad that you, K12, and the chickens are alright.

My biggest problem right now is my stupid dog can't get around in this snow so she's using my driveway as her personal toilet.

I'm pretty sure much of northern Illinois has shut down around me.

Out my window I can see drifts as tall as 7'.... the roads have not been plowed all night since it was likely futile with this wind.

Although I did not shovel my drive last night.. I had to do a backyard area about 5 times in order for the dog to take a leak.

    It has been interesting.

On the other hand.. a few of us gents from the neighborhood did have a little fun last night throwing back a cold one and discussing this situation.

I could see my breath in the kitchen and bathroom so i dug out the cellar doors and put the genny down there and hooked it up to the furnance. Yamaha genny only took a couple pulls. Yay for forced air heat! Now I just need some coffee!

It was 16 here this morning and I thought I was going to die walking from my house to my truck.

Sometimes living in the South has it's advantages...

    Kendall finally made it home.

He saw why the power is out. A roof blew off a building in town and took out the lines. Power company said we might not get electricity restored until sometime friday. :(

Just got done shoveling and snowblowing. The driveway had four to five foot drifts and I did it all by shovel so I could get over to another neighbors to borrow their snowblower. Took care of four neighbors driveways with the snowblower and touched up my driveway.

Throughout the area there are culdesacs with 6 feet of snow covering the road. I have drifts over 5 foot tall in the back yard by the fence and they are growing, this was a fun 24 hours of snow. All in all I think we got somewhere between 21-23 inches of snow.

Im glad we are not getting all that stuff. we didn't get near what they were calling for, and I couldn't be happier about it. Snow gets old pretty quick for me, if I'm not hunting that is :D

Going by the pictures and story's you guys got pounded hard. I myself am fed up with winter this year. I've ran out of room to put the snow. My snow piles are huge and we've still got 2 months of this **** left yet. Easily a record snowfall for the winter will be the case here.

Best of luck Christine In getting that power back. Rain/Ice Is about as bad as It gets. Nothing worse!
