What's the first thing you would buy? I think I would buy new truck, and if the dealership was closed I'd buy it too, and if its not forsake I'd buy the bank that finances it. Then I would buy an outfitter up north and close it for just me and my friends and family to shoot some deer. Then I plan on being in Jamaca by Saturday morning. What have you?

My brother and I have decided.... the first thing we'd buy would be the undying love and thanks of our relatives. At 500,000 we could give all of our living relatives or immediate family members 10 million a piece. We'd have them all gather and go to powerball headquarters. We've been buying tickets for the family tree... one wins...we all win. No one needs 250 million to themselves. We'll let the rest of them decide what they want to do with it. Then I'd buy a truck. However... I already planned on buying a truck when my 100% disability is approved. LOL $2767 a month tax free pays for a truck easily.

First: Sign the ticket and put it in a safe deposit box

Second: Hire a lawyer and an accountant.

I'd let everyone in my family that gave me a couple pennies towards the ticket join me at the lottery office to get their cut (that way they're not taxed twice)

I'd set up college funds for all my nieces and nephews.

I'd buy some ground, and build a house on it.

First thing I'd buy.... hard tellin...

First thing I would do- quit college, pay off said loans, buy truck(s), buy land, build my own house instead of paying someone to, help family out financially, drop off the face of the earth to the public. In that order

I'm weird. I'd pay off my student loans and pay the remaining $100k+ left to take out yet. Buy a house and a new truck...then put the rest in the bank until I finish up with my doctorate and figure what to do with my life from that point forward.

I would pay off all debt, buy land, build house, pay off houses for parents, buy my brother a plane, set up college funds for my future kids, then.... I would hunt.

Pay off all debt, buy my wife a new ride, pay my mom's house off, buy a couple hundred acres and build a modest 2k sq/ft log home on it, then set the rest aside based on the advice of an accountant until I can clear my head and figure out what to do with it. I doubt I'd want to play all the time, would need something to keep me busy.......I could see starting a small business of some sort to keep me occupied.

Buy out the resort and neighboring land. Rename Mitchell Lake to Fitzgerald Lake.

    Buy a bigger canoe!

Saying I wouldn't want my family taxed twice? Why would I want them to be double taxed? Notice I didn't say anything about moving money to off shore accounts and creating a charity and donating to it, while naming my family as workers of said charity and paying them wages to run said charity....

Also, one of the things I'd definitely do with the money is start the brew pub my brother's and I have been talking about. Maybe even a full-blown micro-brewery. I'd throw a few million at it, and see if it blossomed.

An addition to the first part, is I am not a fan of estate tax. That affects the farmers as much as the rich.

You're thinking wrong... just think of it as retiring early in life. If you enjoy your toys and do what makes you happy... you really don't need to work or do something productive other than enjoy life and family. I find I have less time in life in retirement than I did while working. You don't need to run a business if you become rich.l.... just learn to live a different life style. You don't have to change values or plans. You just have to learn to live happily with your new life. Life is too short to demand that we work when we don't have to. I really enjoy being a slug at times.
