I have passed on hunting in winds like that in the past, trail cam pics and this stage of the rut have proved me wrong, hunt as much as possible this weekend.
During this time of year...good. I personally like some wind, I think it lets you get away with movement and it gives you a consistent wind direction.
A breeze is one thing, but 15mph+ sucks. I hunted all day today (saw 2) and couldn't hear a thing. Very frustrating. I cant stand the wind when I'm hunting.
Wind sucks. I don't think it always causes deer to lay down though. I have seen plenty of action during high winds.
High winds don't bother me especially since its been windy the last couple weeks on and off. I shot a big 10 point last week in 12-18mph winds
I don't like that high of winds simply because if a gust comes up while I'm in full draw, I could end up kicking myself for taking the shot. Not to mention the windchill...yes, I could use some more meat on my bones
full moon wife sat tonight back in thick cover. 30+ winds and seen plent of deer. i like wind. just gotta adapt and stay off field edges.
I was going to ask a similar question, hope the OP doesn't mind me high jacking a bit. What about high winds and the full moon? Winds tonight are supposed to be in the double digits gusting to 20. Tomorrow gusting to near 30, add in the full moon and I'm not sure what to expect the deer to do. Don't think I've ever hunted high winds and full moon Two strikes you're out?
I don't have any fields to hunt haha. I hunt "big woods" in Pa. I usually at least see doe at this spot but nothing tonight, not even a squirrel or bird LOL.
We had winds 30mph plus here is nebraska today, and I seen deer chasing in the fields while driving down the highways all the way up til noon... During the Rut not much phases them.
We saw no deer at all. Even checked camera and nothing Las night or this am. Going to a different lease today!
I wouldn't hunt. Not worth hunting when winds are over 10 mph, when the wind is calm, around a full moon, if it rains, when its sunny, when the temps are above average. Why make reasons not to hunt, this is the best time of the year to be in the woods, it can happen anytime. Get in a tree!
I think it depends on where you are located and what critters are used to. Here in the plains, deer are used to wind and it doesn't bother them that much. In eastern OK in the ozarks, wind over 10 will slow activity in general.
Wind and I have a love hate relationship... More hate than love haha. I hunted all day in 15-20 mph winds recently and I didn't see much, but it was my only day to hunt that week so I gave er' he'll.
I hunted today with 2 of my other buddies. Between the 3 of us we saw 17 deer. I saw mine at 1pm 2:30 and 4pm, they are moving. The wind didn't lay down till about 4 so it was 20mph with 30 mph gusts. Cant get a deer sitting on the couch, get out there. Beefie
