Sucks bigtime VS. I hate you could not keep tracking. Chin up though and maybe you can still find him.

LOL Greg--I am about deered out--just got done processing a doe I shot 3 days ago, and then I have to wake up and drive 50 miles to track track track....ahhhh, it is deer season.

If I find the buck tomorrow, I am going to jump for joy. I don't care if he is bigger or smaller than what I think he is, I just want to find him. I have about 4 hours to get the job done tomorrow before I have to head home to be with my dad. I have never used a dog but my buddy says he is excellent.

Also guys, I just reinspected my arrow. It smells weirder than any other arrow I have been around. I actually think I hit the intestines...small matter and slimy, not like your typical gut shot.

    Good Luck Brett!

Can you take your bow? From what I've seen/heard - many times these type of hits can require a follow up shot as the deer may hang tight and offer another shot.
...Glad you got a tracking dog, never used one but hear they are awesome...

    Hopin for the best...

Thanks Michael and BZ--I did not intend to make a shot like that today. I have not made that poor of a shot for I don't know, 7 years? I am going to try hard tomorrow morning and walk and look in likely spots while the dog works.

chit happens bro, we just deal with it as it comes. Since I am spending time with my wife and little one "during the rut", I will send my tracking prowess with you tomorrow vicariously through the dog...good luck bro.

Thats good news, hopefully you have already got your hands around him. A dog can do so much good on a bad hit, itll probably make you want to train one just in case, glad my lab had it naturally and went 2/2 last year, neither my deer but Im sure Ill need him one day, until then Ill just keep helpin other people find their deer.

Searched for hours this morning. We covered a tremendous amount of ground. The dog could not get on a trail. We searched high through briar infested thickets and low down by the swamp. After getting cut up and tick infested over a good deal of land we ended the search. I will be back out there Tuesday morning to hunt. I told my buddy if he sees a lot of buzzards here today or Monday to give me a call and I will go out and look. I don't feel good at all, but I know we tried. I marked everywhere on my gps and we circled the shot location many times over and then some.

Sorry to hear this Brett! I know how it feels and it sucks. Hopefully you'll get some closure of some sort. Good luck.

start back at last site of blood. leap frog each other. one guys stays at the blood, the other goes ahead, very slowly looking for the slightest miniscule droplet. Then the first leap frog him, and mark the trail w/toilet paper. it shows up great & dissolves w/rain. good luck, hope you find him. about how many yds do you think he ran up to the wall with the last sign of blood?

Mike, the buck was not putting out any blood trail at all...I also bet his intestines were plugging the wound. We busted our tails this morning. It was my fault for the poor shot. I had a similar shot two days earlier on a doe and put it on her and she died within 30 yards. Then yesterday I have another 9 yard shot and for some reason I misjudged my shot angle and hit a good 12 inches back as the buck stepped forward---all I can do is saddle back up and try again. That is all I have ever known to do.

I've been working all weekend Brett, just read this thread for the 1st time. Don't know what to say man, I surely would've figured you and the dog would've come up with a deer. Did you find any tracks of this deer on the blood trail? Just wondering If he was pushed, he could be a long ways away then If that's the case. I'm sorry It didn't work out for you, It's tough on a person. Best of luck with finding this deer and or moving on to the next one. Sometimes that's hunting for ya.

Schultzy, without getting into all the details, I did not push him. I gave it a go with a tracking dog and a friend. We tried. I am the type of person that would be looking right now if I thought I had a shot. I have to let it go. The last three days have been a whirlwind for me buddy. Losing that deer, my son getting sick today and me missing a great deal of hunting time, and my truck breaking down yesterday on the way down from looking for that deer and costing me $450 this morning.....but I will not give up and will give it all I have the next 4-5 days before I head back to work this Saturday. I shot my bow a ton this morning and am hitting good.

Brett, your right, all you can do is saddle back up. Work through it; the best medicine is getting back out there and making the next shot count. Good luck.
