I love to learn new ground... The issue is access where I live. It is not easy to come by.

This place is "family" land I am sure the place is going to be stump ground to increase the tillable acreage. The lumber value of the woods wouldn't be that great anyhow as there is not a lot of big mature trees as a tornado went through this piece of ground in the late 80's. That is what created the good bedding on this propertry from pushing over most of the trees.

They own a massive amount of large equipment, they are a large operation. They till a few thousand acres but own maybe 100 acres of woods (less now). What they are doing now is nothing new. This is a piece of ground they have only owned for 5 or so years, they just drain tiled it last winter. That's why they are just getting around to it.

I showed you this place when you were at my house that day, I would rank this place as my #2.

I went through that more than a couple of times myself. It does suck. However, I fixed that problem for myself when I bought my own place.

    Good luck.

Yep same here our big farm we hunted on a hand shake for 4 years is off limits this year beacuse the two brothers got into a big fight, so I feel your pain. Sometimes it is a blessing just to keep on our toes and keep us fresh and working and not getting to comfortable.. Walt

Losing ground is tough in any situation, but it's greatly magnified when new access is difficult.

i think we all know the feeling and the sickness at the bottom of our stomach's. but i'll be willing to bet as we move on as hunters, we can all agree there are other properties out there. i try not to chalk them up as better or worse, just different.

    sorry to hear that buckeye

I have lost ground over killing a big deer on a piece of ground a few years back, the family had no idea what they had. From then on i keep my mouth shut, and keep a low profile- no more pics in the local paper or pro shop for me.:D

hope you find some good new ground my best tactic so far is asking for permission only after everyone rifle season is over, after a few season's the land owner see what kind of a person and hunter i how i treat them and there ground and i am always surprised how great the people are.
There have been days when i pull up to hunt and see the farmer overwhelmed in work or in trouble with a cow or pig and i put my hunting gear up and stop and help him no matter how long it takes. happens two or more times a year but you talk about a friend that will take the shirt of his back to get ya in a good hunting spot.

currently i have over 1000 acres to hunt with zero dollars in leases.

I would love to say that when one door opens another closes, but with land access that doesn't seem to always apply (sorry for being so pessimistic). Hopefully things work out and you score an even nicer chunk. However, I'm not sure we're going to see a decrease in good bucks put down by you;)

As I said earlier... that sucks bad man, after being there I have a much better idea as to what you go through with gaining access. I hope something turns up pretty quick for you.

But... Please tell me that you're going to take the Little Baby Jesus with you!

I should go see if I can find Jesus and see if the trees with my stands in them are still standing so I hopefully do not lose them.
