With all that curly maple I'm wondering if this thing is a bow or a fiddle? Never seen maple and walnut used for limbs before. Should be interesting.

Once I get the riser shaped and more dark grain brought out and with the finish on she is gonna look spectatular even if I say so myself:deer: :d

She'll be a beauty for sure but I'm more interested in how she's going to perform. Hmmmm... lots of analogies to be made there. Maybe I better quit  for the evening. :d

Dang it I don't know what happened.

But after an hour on the belt sander I ened up with a blue limb.:d

All I can do to this one is drill the holes and do the string grooves, till the other one is at the same stage.

Then I can tiller them and start the really fun stuff shaping and sanding the riser.

So why is shaping and sanding the riser dependent on having the limbs tillered? I'd think that you'd want to have the riser mostly finished in order to tiller the limbs to the final hand position/balance point of the riser. Educate me here.

    To answer the question.

Being a glass bow they are only tillered to 18" to make sure both limbs are pulling the same and to check for limb twist which if there is any will be at it's worst @ 18" also doing the tillering on a completed riser you run the risk of damaging the palm section of the grip.

Self bows and board bows are another kettle of fish they have to be slowly tilled from the floor up to the desired draw lenght.

Time to shape the second limb.

First we mark out the shape.

Then onto the belt sander for about an hour carefully sanding to the lines.

Here the jack ass is hardly at work shaping the limb:deer: :d

Take note of the gloves and resperator always wear these when grinding fiberglass, bamboo and exotic woods even if you have a dust collection system.

Once the limb is shaped mark the string grooves.

The grooves will be 1/4" so I mark the center and use a triangle file and carefully file a guide groove along the middle line.

Then using a round file complete the groove.

Now time for a coffee then back to it and drill the holes mount the limbs to the riser and check the tiller, limb twist and horse power:d

Well here she is put together and strung for the first time.

Well I nailed the tiller on the first attempt.

They are pullin even and no twist:cool:

On the down side she must have went on a diet over nite.
She came in light so I will have to pike the limbs to get the weight back.

Sitting here wondering what happened to the poundage.

All I can think of is the Maple is softer than the woods I have used in the past.

The thickness specs for these limbs is .300" the exact same as the limbs I just built for myself and those came in at 55lb @ 27"

These ones came in at 47lb @ 27".

I am just about to go out and pike them an inch each that should gain me about 9lb if it does then the weight will be right on the money for what we where originally aiming for, the only difference will be insead of a 66" bow she will be a 64" bow.
