OPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSS that should be Will E Nelson:deer:

Ok the riser is going to be Tigerwood.

Over the week end I got the sight window and shelf cut.

Got the antler epoxied to some phenolic.

Plus the wedges almost ready they still need some sanding to get the ends paper thin.

    The wedges are Redwood.

So far this morning I have marked the center on the riser, drilled the holes.

Then tapped 2 of the holes.

    Then epoxied in the reciever.

Now I just have to wait for the mail, hopefully everything else should be here today.

Oh had a problem with the 2 belly lams I was going to use they where not wide enough so I ordered some figured curly maple for the belly.

    More to come.

Alright the postman has delivered the rest of the gear including these figured Maple lams, what you cant see in the pic is the tiger stripe that they have:cool:

Time to get to work and taper the lams.
They will have a .002" taper per running inch.

Here is the Black Walnut making a pass through the sander.

    Now the Maple.

When I get them tapered and to the correct thickness I will snap another shot of them in the house.

These limbs are gonna look real good as both the BW and Maple are book matched:cool:

Ok the lams are to the desired thickness of .300.

Here is a better look at them taken inside and close up and you can see the tiger stripe.

Of course they will be darker when I get them under the glass.

Thats enough for today I will get the first of the limbs done tomorrow when I get home from work.

The lams and wedge are in the heat box for the next 30 min's dying out.

The form is prepped ready to go.

When the lams cool down things are gonna get busy fast:deer:

I will take pics along the way but might not capture every step.

Time to relax, prepare myself and have a cuppa coffee:d

Before we do the glue we have to tape all the shiny side of the fiberglass and mark a center line.

Ok with the lams out of the box and cooling.

Here they are in the order that they will be used.

Now time to mix the Epoxy.

Add equal parts of the Epoxy and Hardner, the epoxy I use is Areo-Marine 400 which I have to add about a teaspoon of Cabosil too to thicken it.

The Cabosil makes the epoxy white but it will dry clear.

The epoxy has a working life of 45 minutes so make sure it is well mixed.

Then apply the epoxy to all joining sides always join wet to wet.

    Add the bamboo then wedge.

Thats all the pics of the glue up as my gloves had a good bit of epoxy on them by this stage.

Just add the Walnut and the other clear glass.

Transfeer the stack to the form add the pressure strip and secure into place with filament tape add another layer of cling wrap to stop the hose from sticking to the pressure strip.

Then add the air hose and top of the form and secure.

Add 60psi to the air hose.

Double check everything to make sure nothing has moved if all is ok place in the heat box for 4 hours.

If one or more of the lams have moved now is the time to fix it.

Now time for a quick shower and go have a hair cut while the limb slow bakes @ 180 for the next 4 hours.

The next update will be of the limb fresh out of the box once it's cooled.

Funny, I think I see the box I sent the antlers in in the background. You're not one of those packrats that saves everything are you Russ?

    Steve.

The hose is used to keep an even pressure on the limbs while they cook.

    Dave

There are somethings that should remain secret:deer:

    Rob.

Yep thats the box you sent, I have to keep the antlers in something don't I???????????????

    Joe.

Guess you now know why I buy it by the gallon.

Actually the amount used for each limb is about 1/3 of the tuna fish can, it just looks like there is more.

But of course most of it goes to waste, when the pressure is applied the excess gets squeezed out.

Just over an hour to go before this one is cooked I better start on the mashed tatta's n gravy:cool:

    Russ,

Now you've gone and done it. I went and got a hair cut of my own. I had it cut real short so I wouldn't miss a single post! Mate, it looks beautiful!:hail: :hail: :hail:

Never mind that Bails kid. I know you cannot certify the horsepower until you have the horse...LOL. He's learning. I think that's his problem with the ladies as well. He's trying to have children with em before he's even had a date!

I love the air hose idea. That's a great way to keep even pressure over the limb

    Can you tell I'm excited?
