Sitting if I have the shot. Very steady and my aim is dead on but I always practice while standing so that's fine. Just have to remember to bend at the waist.

I've never sat. I've never been in a tree stand. I hunt spot and stalk. Always. Better that way. Any of you Midwestern boys ever try that? Kinda gives you a better connection with nature and the animal you hunt. I feel it's more respectful. However I'm not against the stand I would like to try some day.

I try to sit whenever possible. Thats hard though because if the animal changes on you when its close, its hard to stand up at that point. So its a risk for sure.

Same here. I've taken one shot at a deer while seated and missed.

You have obviously never hunted whitetails where I do if you think spot and stalk is an option. How exactly to you spot something you can't see or stalk when the woods/swamp is too thick to walk through? You don't realize the amount of preparation it takes to find good stand sites...put up stands....clear shooting lanes...etc

I can honestly say I hunt is some brutal territory. I hike sometimes fifteen miles a day through some of the thickest chaparral oak brush manzanita. Deer are not plentiful here and hunters are abundant. A tree stand would probably help in some situations but I am confident that if I can sneak up to a buck here in this stuff a whitetail can't be too much harder.

Sometimes you gotta just stalk. Spotting isn't always available. Move slow and quiet keep the wind and sun at your face. Just act like there is a deer around every tree.

I'm amazed at the number of guys that said they shoot sitting down.
As soon as I see or even hear a deer I stand. You never know what a deer is going to do and when I'm standing I'm able to move for whatever the shot is.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Like I said I would like to try a stand some day. I just think there is something more accomplished when an animal is taken without bait food plots attractants on public forest land from the ground.

FYI...I don't use bait (illegal in MN) and don't have food plots...I don't even use scent attractants since most of them don't work

I have killed deer on public ground many times as well

My favorite shot would be off the left side of my stand while I'm seated- I feel much more stable in that position- I don't get the shaky knees!

I agree. Whatever the situation calls for, I do.

Depends on the situation. I stand if I have to & sit if I can. Don't really care either way.

I feel as if I am better camouflaged when sitting down. While standing I feel as if they could pick me off easier lol ( sure it's all in my head) ha.

Sit for shooting to my left side, and stand for the right side.

Thanks. Makes sense. Now that I use a harness, standing for a right shot will be easier.

I shoot standing and sitting, most of the time standing!
