After about 5 years shooting bows I started watching some competitive archery. And I pull my bow back completely different than them. I pull my bow back by having my elbow pointed down and pulling my arm against my body. Will doing that for so long cause damage in my shoulder? Because I tried pulling my bow back like other people do and I can't do it, but with enough work I will get there. I just want to know if my bowhunting career could be cut short if I keep pulling my bow back like that?

Sounds like you may need to lower the poundage and yes, improper technique can hurt you, especially if you have too much poundage.

When trying to fix a form issue, it is best to lower poundage to not injure yoursel.
