Probably an elementary question, but I don't know the answer, so I would guess there are others that don't either. The reason I ask is that I observed a small 6pt 1 1/2 yo rubbing on a tree this evening that already had an established rub on it. It was a large rub.....one that would make you think a mature buck if you saw the rub. Yet this deer wasn't even an impressive 1 1/2yo. Thoughts?
Yep, I wouldn't say they are all as communitized, communicised or whatever word it would be, as a scrape is, but you can definitely get more than one buck on a rub. A lot of people set there trail cams on old posts and trees that get rubbed on year after year.
Yes they do hit the same rubs sometimes. I used to pay special attention to large rubs as indicators of a large buck. Now I pay more attention to the height of the rub as an indicator of a large buck. For me, I consider a rub worthy of attention if it is a bit higher than my belly button. Small bucks can and will make large rubs on trees that you could swear are from large bucks, but they cannot fake a high rub.
YES! I think there are three types of rubs really Mock combat, where a buck is execising his neck muscles, i usually find those on bushes or little saplings all torn to hell Bunch rubs. it seems like this is where the bucks stage off of fields or doe beds. Almost like they are bored. annnd scent rubs. there are glands up on dem der heads. I sat in a stand and watch 4 different bucks hit a rub on the otherside of the field of course. All within about 2 hours
Yes they will, I witnessed two bucks do the same rub the other day after sparring a bit first. Some rubs are community rubs!
