I've always thought about this. My friend says buck urine will/can scare bucks away unless its a real mature buck. I think about it a little differently. Can a buck tell how big/dominant another buck is just by smelling its urine? (or in this case synthetic buck urine - Tink's "Trophy Buck" to be exact). I wouldn't think so but I could be wrong... I could see maybe scaring off a yearling or buttonbuck but I don't think thats what i'm going after this season (so far at least). Any thoughts?
I wouldn't be affraid to try it out. Even the little guys are curious and horny. Maybe it will scare them maybe not if it does it may bring in a big buck.
I wouldn't put much faith in that idea. Dogs smell piss all the time but they can't tell how big the dog was that left it. Just my .02 cents
The way I've always thought is so be it if it scares some of them away....I want the one it doesn't scare :D
Exactly what I think. I'll probably try it tomorrow Haha thats a nice way to think about it as well. Thanks
or piss in general, Here's a study they did years back in Bowhunter Magazine. They put cameras on man made scrapes... in these scrapes they put 4 things, Buck Urine, Doe urine, human urine and... new car smell...that's right, you read it correctly... The conclusion.... The scrapes that very visited the most were the two that contained buck urine and human urine and they were visited equally as much and equally from both bucks and does... Now... The scrapes that contained doe urine and new car smell were also visited equally between bucks and does and equally between the scrapes... but fewer times than that of the scrapes with buck urine or human urine... You can take away from this what you wish... but if I were to make mock scrapes, it would be with buck urine... And I've have had success using Tinks 69 doe "in heat" urine but I've also had deer turn inside out after smelling it... so, is it worth the $... I don't know, to each their own... The success I did have was entertaining and worth the effort though no blood was spilled and I will likely, though unsure, will try some scent again in the future but MOST of the time, I go in as scentless as possible... Keep in mind, when using scents, deer have to be downwind from the scent to detect it, make sure you are not upwind from said animal as well. ;-)
