Has anyone ever used a wildlife consultant to help figure out what to plant and were to put food plots. I would like some help mostly on what to plant. The consultants I have found seem pretty pricey to me. If you have used a consultant who did you use and was it something you would recommend.

Depending on what seed company you are looking at going with you should be able to call them to get some input on what to plant. I know the guys and gals at Whitetail Institute would be more than willing to help you with your decision. There customer service is bar none. I spoke with Wilson Scott back and forth for about a week about the plot I plan on doing this year. He answered every question and always responded quickly.

Whitetail Institute does have great customer service...but as I've discussed before even they are a commercial endeavor. If you're willing to mix your own you can save some cash, but if you want to simply buy from a company they'd be the only one on my list.

As for a consultant, I've learned more from joining sniperbowhunting.com and getting to know Randy Vander Veen than I have anywhere else. I actually discuss some of this in my latest post on my blog (see sig). Ultimately though there are so many great resources online and people who are willing to share their seed mixtures, plotting techniques, habitat manipulation that you'd really never need to pick up a phone.
